Hi

Are you able to help out in the Family Room areas of the forum? Unfortunately our wonderful Family Room Moderator is having to hand over the baton to someone else due to other commitments so we're looking for someone to fill their space. Moderating involves:

Keeping the place tidy; moving non-family posting elsewhere on the forum, changing titles that have been posted in capitals, deleting repetitive commercial posts etc.

Stepping into discussions if they have been reported by users

Stepping into discussions if you believe they're getting out of hand or to remind people to be good and follow the forum rules. This is optional but allows you to steer the Family Room in the right direction.

Helping the Administrator with the odd bit of general forum housekeeping.

Generally keeping the Family Room the great place that it is.

This is a purely voluntary position and is very relaxed ie you help when you can but it's the chance to help be a part of the East Dulwich Forum. If you're interested please send me a Private Message

Thanks

Mark

ps and a big thank you to the departing Family Room Moderator, you really have helped the Family Room become what it is.

Thanks Mark.

Just wanted to add that moderating the family room has been fun, and is not hard work. I can't keep doing it, as I have other commitments coming up that mean I probably won't be able to check the forum very often. I'd suggest that a regular user of the family room will easily be able to keep the place tidy in the time they already spend on the forum.

Do also feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss - no commitment.

Cheers, and thanks everyone for making the family room such a kind and supportive place

Although it should be pointed out that the moderator should remain unbiased, just as the current FRM has done.

Yes of course, and I wasn't trying to be funny. I just think it is good the way the FRM has used a seperate login for Moderation, so they can still post as "themself". It keeps the moderating bit nice and seperate, and stops people from pointing fingers at the individual.

I can think of one or 2 I'd definitely nominate.

    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
    • Adapted not forced.  As have numerous species around the world.  Sort of thing that Attenborough features.  Domestic dogs another good example - hung around communities for food and then we become the leader of the pack.  Not sure how long it will take foxes to domesticate, but some will be well on their way.    Raccoons also on the way https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j8j48e5z2o
