sarahew
Hi all, Can anybody recommend any genuinely good apps for 4-7yrs boys? There are so many out there, and so much rubbish, I feel overwhelmed. I'm hoping to find, by recommendation, some that really do successfully combine learning and fun, that aren't full of add=on purchases, for kids interested in construction, patterns, maths, football, music, creative arts. And obviously action adventure heroes etc. Many thanks indeed! edanna
What about Mystery Math Town and Monster Physics? Commonsense media is good for reviews of kids' apps: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/app-lists# Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/126113-recommendations-wanted-pls-really-good-apps-for-4-8yrs/#findComment-1056687 Share on other sites
njc97
My 7yo son uses Mathletics at school and at home: it's sums but quite fun and you get badges for getting numbers right. And you can do challenges against other children around the world. There's a really good BBC Dr Who game. 50% is just a platform game, but then you have to solve puzzles by programming a dalek. A good way to get kids thinking in an algorithmic way.At the bottom end, the best game I've seen is still "Where's my water". Problem solving skills but not much learning. The free version comes with annoying ads, but doesn't hassle you to pay for things as much as others. hazelnunhead
My daughter loved the Toca Boca apps (age 4 or so). Sweet make believe games, no in app purchases or anything. There was a really fun medical one and we had a tea party one as well. If you search it under your App purchases a whole lot will come up. Anna M
We use Fiete Math - it's maths where you have to load a boat with the right number of blocks by chopping blocks apart or adding them together. Nice problem solving with lots of different levels so my four-year old plays and my seven-year old too (still enjoys it a little even though it's a bit young for him!). The graphics are sweet and it's quite simple and satisfying.
