He was great, anyway what does * Bob* know ? it's not like he qualified or anything anyway !

Fantastic performance from Matt. I think TrayC will go... good voice, but far too arrogant and not different enough. Wagner, oh dear, but I fear the "voting public" (whoever they may be) will keep him in. He is funny, I'll give him that.

Is it wrong to fancy the lead singer from the boyband when I'm well and truly old enough to be his mother?

Matt reminds me of Shane Ward and like him, his appeal will be limited to the uk. Rebecca may well do well internationally. She reminds me of a young Billie Holiday...who also was painfully shy.

Treyc's problem I think is that she doesn't engage with the audience. She's not the only one but with a voice like that she could have a great career if she knew how to 'perform' better. They need to give her a song in which she can get the audience in the studio involved....

For me Beyonces performance of 'If I were a Boy' on the show was the ultimate masterclass on performance. She used the walkway and camera and told a story. Treyc needs to do that instead of singing to 'air'.

DJKQ, Matt reminds me much more of Gary Jules than Shane Ward - altogether different style of music, and one which I think would have more international appeal than a third rate Justin Timberlake.

However, I enjoyed this evening's photo montage of a half-naked Shane Ward immensely.

Is this the way, the music business is heading what happen to the days of being discovered by busking or forming a band at school writing your own songs. I understand things have to move on and maybe this is the only way you can get in the public eye.

But there longevity is very short.

The music business has always had a combination of artists from different platforms. Some bands/ artists are manufactured/ packaged or 'managed', others are their own creation. And the majority of performing artists have never written their own songs.....and that's true for any decade going back as far as you like.

I agree with FT...there are lots of great bands and also lots of great individual performers. And you will see some of them watching X factor, artists like Beyonce and Rihanna.

Ultimately, the truly talentless aside, taste in music and artists is subjective for most people, and generation does come into it too. There is no doubt that Beyonce Knowles is one of the most talented artists ever, and her music is good but her style of music is not for everyone.

It is total snobbery to think that only generic bands that write their own songs and play their own instruments have any value or talent. Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley, I could list hundreds who never wrote a song, but were elevated into greatness because of their vocal talent, and whose music was of it's time.

Very good point DJKQ ,your posts on this thread make a lot of sense. I'm old enough to remember the Beatles on Top of the Pops singing Hey Jude, I must have been about seven at the time but I remember it clearly, not knowing what an iconic moment it was.

Times have changed and we've had generation of 'manufactured bands'. At the end of the day we choose what we buy to listen to. Flippin heck I've recently downloaded Best of Slade onto my I-touch, there's a bit of T Rex in there too; I also have some classical all the way down to Lady GaGA!

It's better Saturday nights' entertainment than Noel's House Party or even The Generation Game! Trust me.

I enjoy X Factor, it is what it is.

Strictly Come Dancing IMO is in a different league!

    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
    • Another recommendation for Andy. I needed an old kitchen removed as an emergency. Andy came over quickly and did a fantastic job. I have used Andy a few times. He is punctual, helpful and always does an  excellent job.
