lovely
Glad to see I'm not the only one to ask - why remove the link other forum ? Surely you're not against mentioning another local resource? Mark
it's a forum that has 1 post on it, that's not really a resource.because we believe the link was put there by the person who started the other forum. Having a link to it from a site such as this will get it rankings with search engines. And that's spamming. They were sent a private message politely explaining the reason but they did it again so instead of saying sorry and re-instating it we've decided to keep it off. But now we've put it back. And when someone shows you a site that's potentially competition to this site, it's not really in this site's interest to promote it or am I missing something?[edited once] Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1296-other-forum/page/2/#findComment-34887 Share on other sites

Mark
yes it did, and by going to other local resources and openly promoting it it increased to 2, then 3, 4 etc etc Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1296-other-forum/page/2/#findComment-34890 Share on other sites

lovely
With respect, you assume too much. I have no link to other forum other than being an East Dulwich resident who likes to see open discussion about the local area. georgia
Personally I've enjoyed being a member of this forum and have met some great people through it. But if some people wish to use other forums that's up to them! I don't think this forum will suffer as a result - and it doesn't need to be promoted because it has managed to get where it is today without the need for publicity. char1ie
I think setting up the other forum is a bit pointless. Like Amazon's auctions in the wake of Ebay. It adds nothing. However it is interesting that there is competition out there and that alone is a nice reason to try to make this site even better. lovely
Well, I've posted a wanted ad for a fridge freezer on SE22.com and here in an attempt to buy local. Couldn't find any other local sites, maybe someone could let me know if there are any. No one seems to be selling so far, so my last resort - Ebay - is looking increasingly likely. Huguenot
I notice the other forum hasn't been shy in populating its home page with two tags for Google affiliate revenue.By prioritising that above delivering a popular and engaging editorial proposition I think we can be fair in assuming that money was absoultely top of mind in the creation of se22?The logic of a 'further' opportunity to engage local residents is only demonstrated if the se22 team find different ways of engaging with new local users and bringing them online. Aggressive and repeated link posting to this thread is not the way to do that, that's simply click farming, and well they know it.As for the fridge issue, that's just not sensible - if you want to sell a fridge put it on a popular (and free) local thread like the ones on this forum, there is no need to post it in an out-of-the-way spot and then moan that nobody else is promoting this new heavily commercial site for nothing!!!Finally, to level an accusation of 'unfairness' at such a reasonable bloke as the administrator is totally unfounded, and both cynical and manipulative. How bloody hypocritical!Admin there's absolutely nothing unreasonable in preventing these low-rent carpetbaggers from gaining free publicity for a cynically commercial site whose evident long term interest is to put this forum out of business. What an insult to the efforts and expense you've put in over the last year!!! Ko
Some ideas:- Hook up with local Residents Groups. Eg BARA (Barry Area Residents Association, covering Barry Road, Landells Rd, Darrell Rd, Hindmans Rd, some of Underhill Rd and a couple of other roads), the residents association covering the roads near the station (can't remember its name but it covers roads like Elsie Rd, Tintagel Crescent, Derwent Grove etc). Ask them to mention EDF to their members and in exchange you can put them on the forum under 'Local Info'. Groups like BARA don't have huge turnouts unless there is a hot topic that needs dealing with, but they do a mail-drop a couple of times a year to most of the houses they cover.- See if you can have a leaflet at the Dulwich Community Council meetings?- Put up a leaflet mentioning the EDF on church noticeboards. Ask them if they have any events they would like to put in the 'What's On' section. Churches seem to have a number of fundraisers during the year. Same with schools.- Someone mentioned the bag thing again. Being a girl, I think the reason the I (heart) SE22 bags were popular is because they were eyecatching (the heart and the lime green and pink thing was a good combo) and it was a catchy line. I didn't buy one though because they were pricey!- You could think of doing a promotion with the East Dulwich Society - they mention you if you mention them. The ED Society sends a newsletter about twice a year to all its members and they are active in local issues.- Have votes more often, e.g. 4 times a year. The winners seem to like it, Surma mentioned the forum a couple of times in its advert in one of the magazines (was it Living South?) Instead of/in addition to the little cup as an award, how about a sticker or framed winner's certicate they could put in their front window or at their front desk (something eye catching that their customers will notice - could do this for the winner and runner up in each vote)- You could get other businesses to put up an EDF sticker/small poster in exchange for e.g. two weeks advertising. Some shops on LL are quite obliging when it comes to putting something up in their window/front desk, eg Green & Blue, Moo Too, ED Deli.Anyway, this is just some ramblings from me! :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1296-other-forum/page/2/#findComment-34978 Share on other sites

They are green and pro recycling and also a great way to advertise the forum. It costs nothing for people to walk down the highstreet with them over their shoulders.
