It's not just a change of music, but thanks any way. Many people come in to eat and socialise, and a large TV switched on makes it difficult to eat and engage.

But I like your place, the food is good and staff are friendly. It's just the whole TV think, It puts me off.

Completely agree. Trying to have a conversation with your children over brunch whilst there is a tv distraction is difficult, so don't go there any more. Its a big negative. Music is fine on its own.

I visit a lot, can't recall it being too loud or intrusive tbh. Think it's ok to have in the background, especially if you are eating alone.

For value for money I think this cafe is great, food is good and portions are very generous.

Seems to be an obsession these days with some people not liking TV or radio noises in the background, maybe it drowns out the droning exaggerated bragging which often accompanies some people in eateries. I would class Johnnie's as a modern take on an old school builders cafe, and if that's the case, background noise is part and parcel of this sort of venue. Not everyone wants to hear people bragging about there side return extension, or how they spent a fortune on some organic veggies at a local farmers market. Some people are happy with the likes of Magic FM, including me.

Sue, my point being that a builders cafe having tv or radio in the background is hardly crime of the century. It's been happening for years. Whereas in some eateries, where music is restricted or not played at all, some people feel the need to turn up the volume on their brag-o-meter, and let everyone know about their personal lives. I've heard it in numerous eateries, and it is grating at best. I tend to ban talking about politics, economics and other polarising things at the dinner table, in my own home.

Nor have I.

Nor have I ever heard anyone talking about the price of organic veg.

Nor have I ever heard anyone "bragging", apart from one obnoxious man years ago in The Plough boasting how advanced his very young child was, in front of a couple whose child was very small for its age :(

It's not a radio on in the background, it's shite 'urban R & B' on a TV big enough to give you a radiation burn. It's intrusive, it's fully widescreen.

It's bloody annoying. It doesn't happen at The Upland road place, or any other 'construction worker' cafe I've been too. The only thing I ever see is The Star or The Mirror or even the HateMail.

And TV whilst eating is naff, tho I agree that some subject are best not discussed.

Oh and lastly, please squeeze that tedious/odious/chippy/ Lousia back into the can, we almost liked the revised version post referendum. The old one's gone off, out of date, beyond ironic, boring.

I have no idea what 'urban R & B' sounds like, but I presume it has received a relatively warm welcome in this establishment, as it seems busy most days I've walked by. To me, music is music, I don't always want to talk when eating. It's often nice to be forced into not making irrelevant chit chat with people you're probably tired of talking to much anyway. Just being in someone's company enjoying some light entertainment works.

This place doesn't appear to be going down the traditional construction workers cafe route exclusively. They're trying something different and I commend them on that. Sure it's not to everyone's taste, but I would happily add my voice to the idea of music whilst eating.

Oh and lastly, there's nothing chippy about my post, I was expressing an opinion. Just as you chose to do when you felt the need to tell this cafe you won't be going back in because of the music/television setup, I never called that chippy/tedious or odious, I respected your opinion, maybe you should try that route too Seabag.

Your posts are becoming chippy again, they're much like the old endless drivel sideswipes at the people you feel exist, and do the things you describe. They're a rehash of the old stuff you put out, full of the same boring creations that your default mindset goes to when in stand-by mode. You know the stuff that got you confined to the lounge previously, endless swipes at those you feel the need to vent your valve on.

And to you that's fun, it gets you off. Only that most others don't recognise or agreee with your spoutings, so it grates and bores them. But crack on, tread the same old boards, punt the lines out and hopefully the sanitation team will power hose the required areas and wash it into the sink hole again.

Have fun, but please give that stuff a rest.
