I've recently moved into the area (Peckahm Rye end of Barry Road) and I'm looking for a decent pub quiz to invite some friends to. I've heard the Magdala(?) does a decent one but I can't/shouldn't do Sundays in the pub

cheers, Steve

ps I'm impressed that East Dulwich has it's own forum website!

I've been to the Magdela on a Sunday and it is a good larf, especially the Play your Cards Right bit at the end. ?2 each and you get sausage and chips with it. Nice.

Does anyone know what days the other quizzes happen on?

Gowlett pub quiz is on Monday nights.

Very nice and relaxed. ?1 per person, up to five per team.

Pizzas are better than good. Lots of really good beers.

We did the Gowlett pub quiz last night which was nice. At the start 2 grey bearded men came in and I think I remembered them from my last pub quiz in the CPT a few years ago because they scored 98 out of 100. And yes they were the same, they won and they're known as the Brainy Bearded Brothers or something similar. Do they go to every pub quiz in the area and win? Have they ever been beaten...?

They are known as The Beards, and they do tend to win most of the time!

CPT Quiz is hit and miss. It's 3 rounds of 20, the first of which is always "Pot Luck", then 2 rounds on various subjects. Thing is, quite often you think you'll do well on the film round, until you realise that it's pre 1950's films!!!

That said, The CPT is my regular haunt, so should stick up for them really! ;o)

Magdalla is a good laugh.

We tried out the Gowlett quiz last night. Very enjoyable evening despite the bloomin' bearded ones winning. Given that one of the categories was all about 'I'm a celebrity ... ', they certainly have a wide range of knowledge! Best pizzas ever tasted in this country I'd say and v nice atmosphere. Extremely friendly staff too. Thanks guys.

I love the Magdala quiz on a Sunday night. Starts promptly at 7.30 and is over by 9.30 so an early night. And you can win serious money on the Play Your Cards bit at the end - the pot got up to ?1000 a few weeks ago. I also noticed that the Uplands has started a music quiz on Tuesday nights.

    • I've found also that the Nectar lower price hasn't always been applied on 3 recent shops on various items. After the first shop where i noticed (likely happened many times before) I check the Smartshop scanner to see if it's been applied and if it hasn't then photo the shelf-pricing... you then have to get a refund at customer service. Not very efficient/a pain but would have spent over £5 more on 3 items. You won't be able to do this without using Smartshop unless you photograph every item at the shelf then go through them and the items on the receipt. Oh, and to get the refund you must also present the item at the customer service desk (not just the receipt and photo). I had to go to the car first time to recover ice cream.
    • Is anyone getting rid of a play tent? I’m looking for one suitable for a 6 year old boy. Many thanks.
    • FredMarsh Started conversation: 6 minutes ago I must agree ! Shopping in Sainsburys Dog Kennel Hill has become very unpleasant ! The erection of coral fencing  to herd us all in one direction so that we can be observed by security prior to getting into the "shop" is quite horrible. The fresh meat counter has gone . The fresh fish counter has gone. The fresh cheese counter has gone. Most of the staff have gone ! Just a couple of attended checkouts left,  sometimes just the one with people waiting quietly inline But most people are herded into the payment coral and wait just as long to do a redundant cashiers job. unload your own shopping, place your bag in the right position so that it can be weighed and the quietly pick each item you are about to purchase , look for the barcode and pass the item across the scanner. Then put item in shopping bag.  What could be easier or more efficient ? If something goes wrong or you are trying purchase alcohol, just look round nervously, not wanting to make a fuss. If nothing happens start waving to the overworked member of staff in a sainsburys uniform  running up and down looking after a few dozen self service checkouts Don't forget to take your receipt (piece of paper that will be screwed up and discarded discreetly  shortly afterwards )  It's essential to present your receipt in order to escape the coral. There's nothing pleasant about Sainsburys any more. ! Why do I go there? Because I can get the whole thing over with and not get a parking ticket !! And NO !   I'm 77 completely knackered and am not going to get a bike
