The review also includes many ED institutions hence why it's posted here. When the Mail is nice about somewhere, does that make it not 'cool' anymore?

Louisa.

The Wishing Well was a perfectly good local boozer before it had its heart and soul ripped out and turned into The Victoria Inn.

It's a classic case of a pub completely ruined by new owners. It is so beige.... or grey judging by its latest lick of paint.

Jah, much as I loved the Wishing Well and spent many happy evenings there, not least the Kraftwerk Tribute Night complete with lasers, it was the only pub I've ever been to which more than once had no beer.

Yep - no beer at all.

And before it's demise, much of the time it was almost completely empty ...

So sadly, like the late lamented CPT, the writing was on the wall.

Used to use The Wishing Well occasionally back in the day.. mainly to meet friends.

.. but it was always a shite hole.

When it first become The Victoria Inn I was invited to the opening night which went down well.

I then won a Sunday Lunch from following on Twitter. which was excelent. Had several Sunday roasts there after that

and popped in for a few beers from time to time.

Have not been for a while and haven't seen the latest refub which judging by the amount of debris outside must of been extensive.

It used to be a Sunday lunch sort of place but I seldom drink daytimes these days and hardly ever on a Sunday.

One person's shitehole is another person's pub with character, Fox.

I liked The Wishing Well, but I can see why it had to go.

Not very keen on the Victoria Inn though.

The old Prince Albert had character but now gone. Semi cloned version of the Victoria. That is what the locals now want, cannot fight progress as they say. Unfortunately the clients also seem to be the same.

All,

When he states in his conclusion that some parts of Peckham may not be everyone's cup of tea because they are gritty, which parts is he referring to? Is he literally stating this because he believes some of his readers would not be comfortable in those parts of Peckham?

I must have missed that and your reasoning is of course correct but I can only go on my experience of the place. It was a fairly regular haunt of mine in the 90s. Maybe the profits went down when I stopped using it so much. ;-)

The Wishing Well - indeed like the CPT - was a perfectly good pub, but rarely seemed busy.

The Victoria Inn (previous incarnation) was a good spot for lunch with kids (despite the revolting "play room"), but for going out drinking in the evening, it was never my first choice.

    • I'd like to post a recommendation for Jerry Oscar of H.F.U. Ltd.   Jerry has just completed the renovation of my bathroom and I’m so happy with how it turned out.  My bathroom has a strange layout (with about a quarter of the room/floor space un-useable due to the stairs underneath), but he came up with some great ideas that have really made the most of the space - somehow he turned the room into a tardis and made room for a bath (previously only had a shower) AND even given me extra storage. He's a magician!  I felt he really cares about what he does and treated the project like it was his own home. He was also great to have around – super friendly, easy to talk to and raise any queries or concerns with the project, and he was very respectful of the space. He kept his tools tidy and made sure the bathroom was still usable while he worked, which made a big difference day to day. He doesn’t cut corners and clearly has high standards.  I’m honestly so pleased with how everything turned out. If you’re looking for someone reliable and skilled, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jerry. He does kitchens too, and if I ever redo mine, I’ll be giving him a call. • These Gents are amazing, we asked them to come and paint our whole house interior and fix a number of issues from previous paint jobs. They are professional, clean up after themselves and pay attention to every detail. Their work is outstanding and I can't recommend them enough, Brian and Malachi are incredible.
    • Fabion is an experienced plumber. I was connected with Fabion through an App when I had an emergency issue with my water tank in the loft. He fixed it.  He also came back to replace my taps in the kitchen. Since then Fabion has been able to help me with the following:  1. Putting up blinds - immaculate 2. Dismantling and reassembling beds x2 (30 mins flat)  3. Taking down big old doors Extremely professional. Clean - never leaves a mess. SO fast. Attends when he say he's going to attend. Friendly and kind.  I cannot recommend him more highly.
    • Hi would be grateful for any recommendations. It is for a special birthday. One of the party is vegetarian. Thanks
