1) The Germans. I've worked for a german company and with lots of germans. I like them a lot. They've a great and dry sense of humour, like a beer and have many similar traits as us brits only with better english. They get a bad press -I like them.

2) Pipe smokers - magnificent. The ritual, the aeshetic quality of the pipe - the smell of a decent shag...not a whif of your dog on a string Old Holborn. Sitting there using deduction to solve crimes/creating the NHS?designing stuff......I can even forgive Tony Benn some of his idiocy with that pipe. Magnificent and rarely seen. An enobled and diminishing beast. Piper smokers I salute you.

3) Busty barmaids of a certain age who call you 'darlin' at old school pubs...most of us blokes are just a sucker for this.

Actually Keef, I know this is off-topic...but you seem to do this the most...so I have to ask...

What exactly do you mean when you say that: "Word!"...(I honestly don't know :-S)...I used to think it was used to tell someone off, but clearly you are not doing that here...

Thanks.

You are right...so, to get back on topic (I shall then go away)...

    • Certainly the infamous (and mythical) SE London cat killer turned out to be foxes attacking dying and dead cats injured by cars, but fox: cat encounters do appear to happen, even where cats are victorious. Fox: adult humans less so. At least where foxes are the aggressors.
    • That was very kind of you to take the cat to the vet. Did the car not stop?
    • This is a bit outside our area, but I'm posting in case .... Last night (Sat.20 Dec), around 10.30, we saw a cat hit by a car in St Norbert Road, SE4.  We took him to the out of hours vet in Beckenham, where they confirmed that he had died.  They will see if he is microchipped, and contact the owner if so.  They were very kind.   He was a lovely cat, grey and white.  He must have died very quickly.  So sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😞 The vet is Medivet in Beckenham, tel: 0208 650 2003.
    • Watching my cats over the years with foxes, I've found that foxes have totally ignored them. One exception was when a young fox hadn't seen my cat and found himself eye to eye with my cat at a distance of 1 metre. There was a stand off but the fox blinked first and my cat chased him out of the garden. So proud of her. I believe when foxes have attacked cats, the cat has been vulnerable  - old, young, ill wounded.
