Alan Dale
Meant for the lounge:-I had my last ever birthday party when I was 18. Some people have one for their 21st. Ok.Absolutely last forgivable birthday is 30th but I really don't know why you'd want to do it.I can't stand the whole 'but you have to it's my birthday' attitude. If you ever find yourself saying something to that effect then you should take a step back and give yourself a serious dressing down.Agreed? SeanMacGabhann
Most definitely agreed !I mean by all means use it as an excuse for a party but anything else is just...wrong Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-37523 Share on other sites

Brendan
Pah. Getting through another year without dying is due cause for celebration. As is getting through another week. So roll on 5:30pm! :)-D Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-37537 Share on other sites

dulwichmum
One of my most favourite lines is "but you have to it is my birthday!" I don't tell anyone what age I am - but it is a great excuse to acquire gifts...The other line I enjoy is "Of course I love you, now where are my presents..." Jah Lush
Alan, you're such a party pooper. As it happens I'm going to a birthday party this afternoon. Second one of the week in fact. I love a party but then I am a hedonist.:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-37596 Share on other sites

Keef
Nout wrong with getting p!ssed up for your birthday, and you may aswell do it with friends, or you'll just feel miserable ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-38201 Share on other sites
Alan Dale
I hate the smug self satisfied 'it's my birthday' look on people's faces and the way they nurse their dregs waiting for their next birthday drink. Or worst of all when they sulk about someone not coming or the lack of cards or whatever. If you really want to celebrate your birthday then you should take your Mum out. She did the hard part- and I don't just mean letting your Dad have a go on her... Brendan
Yeah I really don?t know anyone who celebrates peoples birthdays because they feel like they are under some kind of obligation to do so. People do it because they want to and they enjoy each other?s company. SeanMacGabhann
TO be fair to Alan, I know what he is talking about. Most of us use it as today's excuse for a boozeathon but one or two people I know (including family members) really do take it upon themselves to grab a moment in the spotlight (which is ok) but make everyone feel like sh one t if they don't reeeally put themselves out (not so good) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-38245 Share on other sites
Alan Dale
Exactly right Sean.My closest friends don't celebrate their birthdays. My experiences of people who misbehave on their birthday are old friends, friends of friends and colleagues. It's pretty much universal though. If you organise your own birthday party then you are one of the people I mean.... Brendan
Well I?ll just naively carry on assuming the best of my friends and family. I find most of the time it?s warranted. Alan Dale
When is a naive assumption warranted? Or a warranted assumption naive? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-38249 Share on other sites
Asset
when the warranty is assumed or the assumption naive Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1380-last-ever-birthday-party/#findComment-38250 Share on other sites
Alan Dale
I see that. My attempt at pedantry was incorrect.A naieve assumption could easily be warranted as naive or not you still have to make assumptions. But I am still not celebrating my birthday. Brendan
Don?t believe I?m getting into this but:If the assumption turns out to be warranted even though it was made without the critical deduction that may have been necessary for the situation.
