Bad, bad Otta :))

Go to Iceland and buy the things you can carry and actually need....

Or drive to S........'s and fill the car up with things you think you need but don't and

fill up your new Brown Bins with all the stuff that you end up wasting...

Buy 1, waste 1 Free...

Just need a bit of discipline, Foxy :))

Avert your eyes from the Ben and Jerry Phish Food and all that (I see the Co-Op has Ben and Jerry's on special offer this week btw folks)

Can't BELIEVE so many people have responded to this brainless (if it's genuine and deliberately provocative if not) post. (which now includes me.. doh!)

*ADMINISTRATOR* - Surely it's time to suffocate at birth any posts that mention 'M&S Simply Food' or 'Waitrose' on Lordship Lane.. Please!

Hmmm, you'd think with a development of this scale that all the street would be consulted- only a handful it seems. It's been kept very low key.

The rationale is that since all the existing parking behind Iceland will be removed this will reduce pressure from cars parking in the area. Not sure that makes sense? Where will the residents in the new units park?

There is a carwash next to the proposed development and they regularly park cars waiting to be washed up and down the street- Southwark Wardens are awfully obliging about cars on yellow lines where this business is concerned;)

Do we need an M&S? It is not clear to me how much higher than the exisiting structure this building will be?

This woman is a huge snob shops like iceland are good for dulwich provides variety

Iceland may sell one or two basics at a good price, but the majority of their stuff is truly appalling, for both health and environment. There are a number of low cost supermarkets which cater for those on a budget without such disregard for quality / nutrition. Personally, I won't shed a tear for their closure.

Iceland was installed and running a LONG time before these "nice shops" came to ED... perhaps we should get rid of them instead ans worship that is Iceland forever more :)

*NB. I'm neither for or against the establishment ;-)

Where do you suggest those on a budget go then?

Sorry Admin but the other thread is meant to concern the proposed application not the silly opinions (as seems to be dominating that thread) of whether a waitrose/M&S/Iceland should occupy the site and the price of fish (oooo a so diff can of worms!). Perhaps that thread should be advised to stay on topic no?

I don't see how they're any worse than the equivalent products from M&S / Sainsbury's / Tesco etc: burritos, filled jackets, toasted sandwich - granted the yorkshire pudding roll looks pretty lowest common denominator, but that's just food snobbery on my part, based in no way on nutritional information.

So I'll ask again, how do justify saying they're appalling for health? And in that regard, how do they differ from any of the major multiples.

There are plenty of examples. Frozen cheese and ham sandwichs are just one, doner kebab pizzas another (?1 at Iceland). You won't find these in Sainsburys (for example). Take a walk around Iceland and look at the type of cheap, highly processed convenience foods they specialise in. Yes, in my opinion they are one of the worst offenders when it comes to peddling this type of junk.

    • Hello East Dulwich families 👋 I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I’m a professional family & wedding photographer with 14+ years of experience, and I split my time between the US and London throughout the year. I’ll be based in London for the coming weeks and would love to photograph more local families here in East Dulwich. My approach is very relaxed and natural — no stiff posing, no pressure — just real connection, movement, and the beautiful everyday moments that tell your family’s story. I work especially well with kids and parents who feel “awkward” in front of the camera (which honestly is most of us!). Sessions can take place at home, in the park, on your favourite street, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. The goal is to create images that feel like your life — not a photoshoot. If anyone has been thinking about documenting this season with their children, I’d love to connect, answer questions, or simply share examples of my work. No pressure at all — just happy to be here and meet some neighbours. You can see my work here: https://bluesparkphotography.com/family/ (use the contact page on the site to send me a message if you're interested!).
    • I don't! But I've also taken to calling myself David, as it seems to shorten the odds of achieving something in life. It's not King Dave, Dave Lloyd George, Dave Hockney, Dave Bowie or Dave Hasselhoff is it? And I'm not sure Michelangelo would have had such success if he'd called his sculpture 'Dave'.
    • I think there is still a shoes/clothes recycling bank outside of North Dulwich station.
