Just heard from my friend who works for the estate agency Alan & Hansen that Poundland have a temp permit for 2 years to run their business in Lordship lane. Apparently it's going to be their flagship store. More to follow, as work on the store will begin in 2 weeks. Their aim is to become a cheap version of woolworths, which makes me wonder what the prices will be like? One pound for everything? Insane.

Here's a video clip of Poundland new store in Oxford Street. Looks well plush

I was hoping it'd be a Millets.

I was hoping they'd have a large display of cheap camping gear.

I was hoping there'd be a staff member outside with a megaphone hailing passersby with the phrase "Wow here is the window of our discount tents"

I reckon I'll feel much better when I give up hope.

What kind of permit would this be? AFAICS from the booklet on planning permision for businesses, downloadable from http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/planningpermission, the place would still be in class of use A1 (shops, etc) , and so no permission for change of use would be needed. Am I wrong, and if so, am I right in thinking that any application for change of use should appear on the register at http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/485/planning_applications/554/search_the_planning_applications_register? I can't see any any current application there. What other permissions might be needed?

My thought as well. What permits are required?

At best they'd need Advertisement consent, possibly

Building control if they were to alter the internal layout.

Unless it's a short term lease you're referring to?

    • Might have left the job but says very little about agency management.. surely most companies have a hand over or would at least check that all was  in place… how long does it take to just look at e mails to see everything has been done? Hoping this is not for real as I thought this agency was long established in the area…Buck stops with manager of rental department or Manager is overall charge.. Everyone likes to pass the buck on - own up, put your hands up, everyone makes mistakes…
