Pub crawl suggestion...as tried and tested this evening with a couple of friends.

Started at The Vale - pleasantly surprised. I asked a man (who said he was the owner) about this Whetherspoon thing and he said it was "all a load of crap". Make of that what you will. But nice and cosy sitting next to the real fire.

Then we moved on to...oh gawd...where was it? Was it Hoopers? Yes, I think it was Hoopers. Not my favourite - a bit too quiet...and decor a bit old fashioned for me...a nice old man's pub...lots of old men reading their papers in silence. But I was sold by the TV showing Man. U playing Wolverhampton. One of my friends said it was her favourite of the evening...so it's all very subjective.

Then the Victoria Inn. One of Scott's bars. Prefer it to the Actress...less noisy and a bit more comfortable. Certainly not as crowded.

Finally the Montpelier...I can't remember anything about that one. Oh yes...a kind of cross between the Actress and another pub but I can't remember which right at the minute. My tongue is numb - that last Sambuca was over the top.

You are right! I am off cider at the moment. Started off tonight's pub crawl with Cahlua - lovely sweet toffee like coffee flavour. The final pub (Montepelier) didn't stock it and I fancied something sweet, so ordered Sambuca because it tastes of aniseed balls. Nearly blew my head off - but delicious. Drank it slowly by dipping my tongue into glass for a few seconds at regular intervals. Result = numb tongue LOL!

See you soon for a Sambuca (or two)! x

DJKQ, go have some Sambuca, it will help with your footie injury.

It was a great pub crawl for a Tuesday night, i liked all of the bars, we didn't need to drive either :), it was a good walk and a fair amount of booze involved. The Vale is a very nice bar and very cosy and the food on the menu looks great. The chef was friendly when he came out to put the menus out. Hoopers bar is quite traditional and local footie players were having a drink in there. The Victoria nice as ever and the burger with onions was fab IMO. Two of my p!ss-artist buddies did not rate the chips though, didn't stop them from woofing them all down though. The Mont- great last stop, friendly and cosy too then it was the walk back to ED.

Knowing me, it'll only encourage me to pole dance on my crutch........nooooooooooooo - don't even picture that......

And Dita - you may not have drunk any Sambucca but at least I wasn't acting out my bedroom seduction techniques in the middle of The Actress on a Friday Night! Killer wine that was eh ;-)

Tongue fully recovered today.

Oh and as for Dita's...ahem...(*coughs*)...dance...well, that was an artistic feat the like of which my eyes had never seen before...I feel quite, quite privileged. Nearly coughed my own lungs up with laughter! The lady is blessed with enormous talent - of that there can be no doubt.

As for you pole-dancing on your crutch, Queenie - that I've got to see LOL!

    • There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda and far more across their briefs than any minister I've seen in years. The consensus was that Labour are so unpopular and untrusted by the electorate already, as are the Conservatives, that breaking the manifesto pledge on income tax wouldn't drive their approval ratings any lower, so they should, and I quote, 'Roll The Dice', hope for the best and see where we are in a couple of years time. As a strategy, i don't know whether I find that quite worrying or just an honest appraisal of what most governments actually do in practice.
    • They are a third of the way through their term Earl. It's no good blaming other people anymore. They only have three years left to fix what is now their own mess. And its not just lies in the manifesto. There were lies at the last budget too, when they said that was it, they weren't coming back for more tax and more borrowing. They'd already blamed the increase in NIC taxes on what they claimed was a thorough investigation. They either knew everything then or they lied about that too .   They need to stop lying and start behaving. If they don't the next government won't be theirs, it will be led by Nigel Farage.  They have to turn it round rapidly. Blaming other people, telling lies and breaking promises isn't going to cut it any more.
    • Is it lame? Or is it Lamey? (sorry)
