titch juicy
What a good idea! I wish more pubs would do this :)A big draw for me was always the large choice of cask and keg beers, including unusual choices not found in other local hostelries. Happy to pay the higher prices for the more unusual beers.Always good to have a couple of decent permanent choices too. You always had Camden Hells for a lager/pils style beer and Lagunitas IPA. Good choices. If showing big screen sports, which I know you will be, please can we have the sound high enough to hear the commentary. There's plenty of pubs in ED that don't, if that bothers people. Reserving tables for sporting events is a bit annoying though. If people are desperate to watch, let them get there at a decent time.Something a little different in terms of food and decent bar snacks (homemade scotch eggs and sausage rolls).A good regular quiz. Mick Mac
At 10.25pm on Thursday 9 February a group of 6/7 people from curry club, at new Jaflong, tried to go in for a post curry beer (having already had a beer there before curry club) and the second we opened the front door the barman said - sorry we have just closed the bar. Why was that? because I thought, I wont be going back there again. Until then I had the feeling the pub was doing quite well. Maybe you need a music theme - the music policy seems disjointed. JohnL
Live Music - but they actually had a vote box on that once at the Rye Hotel - and I assume Live Music lost as the band never came back :((You wonder if something bad happened to DF whilst a jazz band played.)I tend to drink 2.8% lager at home (Skol :) ) - it never gets you drunkand can be OK if you're not in the mood for too much alcohol.Put the sound on in the build up to Champions League matches (I think it'sagainst the rules as no pub anywhere does - not til dead on kick off) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/143099-what-do-you-want-out-of-the-flying-pig-pub/#findComment-1106699 Share on other sites

Jeremy
Try to keep an eclectic beer selection, but prices need to be affordable. Ivy House always seemed to manage a good cask and keg selection at slightly better prices than the FP. Especially once it approaches ?6 a pint, it's a real turn-off. gabrielconroy
Getting one of the local breweries on tap would be a real boon - maybe try to sort something out with Canopy Beer Co. or the Brixton Brewery? Preferably the former since it's very tasty indeed (judging by the bottle conditioned stuff, anyway). bermygirl31
Well...some decent wines by the glass would be good and perhaps a nice cava ( a cheaper option for bubbly than champagne). A cocktail or two wouldn't go amiss - maybe have a weekly featured cocktail and bring back live music. You used to have it far more regularly and it was great. Then it all stopped!?Re food, perhaps a slightly better variety, some interesting and creative salads, and with regard to the chicken wings there should be an option for the sauces/dips on the side. When they are cooked with the sauce on they aren't crispy and so the description of crispy wings on the menu is misleading. Bring the coleslaw back!! How on earth can you have wings and ribs without cole-slaw. In my view you should bin the burgers, too many people are doing them now and focus more on the southern food theme. Perhaps some meatloaf, chicken gumbo, collard greens etc. If you really want to be different invest in a proper smoker and smoke your ribs a day in advance. Do bbq and do it WEL!!! That market is saturated with meat liquor and gbk. They have never really kicked ass with the BBQ, so perhaps they neee to take it seriously and kill it!! Burgers again....snooze!!! Lazero
The thing is they aren't really competing with meat liquor or honest burger - they're giving people an option that will keep them drinking in the pub. I've been with friends before to watch sports/ hang out in the afternoon, and come dinner time we will sometimes go elsewhere. Burgers may be boring, but it's a safe option that people will happily eat. I love BBQ, but you have to be quite the specialist to do it well, and unfortunately it was never up to scratch at the Pig. Doing a few pub classics well may be good enough. Agree on creative bar snacks - a pub near my work does really nice "small plates" options like lasagne bites, scotch eggs, whitebait, and sharing platters of buffalo wings, mini sausages, mini bacon buns etc. Agree with earlier comments re. showing sports - have the volume up so we can hear it. The TV won't always be on, as there isn't good sport on all day long, and if it does really bother you then there are lots of alternatives. Generally I'm there for 5pm-ish football, and even though all the other people around me are there for the same thing, they don't always agree to put the volume up or even on.Good, varied selection of beer. And the expertise behind the bar to recommend something to you, like you get in Hops, Burns & Black. Such a boring pub food option and done everywhere. And having been spoilt with the likes of Honest Burger and MeatLiquor in the area, unless a real burger expert comes in and makes them, they're always disappointing. Jeremy
Right - good bar food is better than mediocre barbecue. You need specialist expertise, and I'm not sure they ever really had that on board. TBH within a year or so of opening, the bbq had already taken a back seat on the menu. Also, burgers... meh... London's full of good burgers these days.
