Hi, Can anyone recommend some good long weekend options for a break with toddlers, drivable from London (2-3 hrs max), with things to do and ideally a toddler friendly accommodation (self catering or a decent family hotel)?

We've done a fait amount of flying recently and keen to just get out of London but to give airports a rest. Any tips much appreciated!

Thanks.

Gladwins farm is great; 2 hours in car, animals to feed on site, indoor and outdoor play aviators for kids and indoor pool. They can organise babysitting for you if needed. Reasonably well stocked kitchens from equipments perspective and 'cook' freezer meals available too.

We stayed here last Easter "Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel & Resort" in Lymington - so you have the New Forest all around. Day trip to Longdown Activity Farm which was great.

Room was big enough for 2 travel cots (our kids were nearly 3 and nearly 1) and they had been set up for us (and thankfully quite long cots so the nearly 3 year old still fit!) Food had 2 options I think, one was a bit hit and miss but think that was a staffing issue so hopefully sorted. It had a pool (not amazing but good enough) and nice grounds. You could walk to town (but it was a long walk) or drive.

Other option is Marwell Hotel - next to Marwell Zoo. You can get Zoo tickets included in the package and we then went to Peppa Pig World the next day (30 mins drive or so). Hotel bit old looking but great restaurant and food (and kid friendly) and swimming pool (bit dated and small but ok). Room was small but there may be bigger options. Great having the Zoo right outside!

We just had a lovely weekend in Alfriston in East Sussex, less than 2 hours drive. Really pretty village with nice pubs, good short walks along the river, Middle Farm which was great for petting animals and jumping about in hay, there's also drusilla's zoo. We stayed in a lovely airbnb - we were a large group but sure there must be smaller options too

    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
    • If I don’t feed the birds, they’ve actually come and perched on the fence and stared directly at me through the window. The squirrels do that too.
    • Reading The words 'Artisan'  and 'Curated' when refering to my 'Breakfast Bundle' frankly make me feel a bit..🤢
    • I would recommend Coopers bakehouse, which offer a similar service to B&C but it’s just focussed on really good bread, decent prices and keeps for ages (also freezes well).  Delivered by bike.
