Just been out in the snow!

Ok in hindsight it was probably a bit of a silly idea with a baby and toddler but I was going nuts stuck inside :)) So apart from a photographer and a few teenagers we were the only souls braving Peckham common this morning. It was cold and wet with the snow hitting us in the face, but also great fun. Anyone else brave enough to go out in it? I don't think there will be many at the 1 o clock club today!

we made it just out the front door, mummy got cold though and had to come inside for a cup of tea! need to get snow proof gloves and shoes!! sorted the kids out but forgot about me...

it is very pretty though :o)

My toddler is NOT keen. Which is annoying given he IS little snownboarder!! - am hoping he's just a bit young to find it fun but a bit big to be all cosy wrapped up in his pram. Recently sold the 'big' pram so only got the maclaren and not much protection there!

We were the only ones at Little Bubbles this morning. Have to try to get out somewhere this afternoon as I can't bear any more cbeebies (or the whining when cbeebies not on).

Haha snowboarder I get the same with cbeebies, although currently toddler G is obsessed with Peppa Pig on the laptop. I get variations of "more pig please" "pig now please" "watch pig?" ALL DAY, hence I hid the computer and went out! This afternoon I am going to try cake making, which is fine with one, but baby isn't keen if he doesn't have a new toy in his lap every 20 seconds....

PS need to find some gloves that actually stay on little hands. Is is ok to tape them on their arms?!;-)

I need to find some gloves which allow for thumb sucking.....then they might have some chance of staying on...

I've seen some for grown-ups with thumb and one finger missing for phone usage - maybe you could adapt them for baby SB?

We were the the only people at Dulwich Park this am. Like little SB E is NOT keen on the snow. She just stood there saying 'mama cawee' (carry) so ended up carrying her and pulling biggy behind me all the way to the cafe where she cheered up. Thinking of braving 1 o clock club this pm...The Maclaren is a bit rubbish to push in the snow though, am missing bugaboo which is in storage at my parent's house.

i've resorted to 3yr olds socks on 1yr olds hands, taped them up and then amusingly cut a little hole for one of her thumbs to poke through for her to suck - guessing that thumb won't get cold cos in mouth!!!

Was aiming for Crystal Palace 1'club tomorrow morning but thinking it might be a bit of a shocking drive - what ideas do people have for tomorrow morning - maybe thinking library if anyones up for it?

Haha my little one is also a thumb sucker - it hadn't occurred to me to make a peepy hole in the glove :)

I normally do a church group on weds but could be up for library.

I tell you what, it was a bit slippy today under foot but if there's a frost tonight its going to be lethal tomorrow. I find it hard enough to get traction in any of my footwear while pushing 2 kids in the Phil & Ted, although I must say it is easier than a Maclaren. Think I might have to salt the front path tonight so I don't go arse over tit tomorrow!

Few people in Dulwich Park just now. We were out for an hour, daughter didn't want to come home. Its really nice out there and sooo fun. Forget everything grab the kids and dash out and play!! DP is just one pure white blanket, loads of animal prints too! Poor little girl was stiff, before leaving I insisted on;

vest,

2 tshirts with long sleeve,

thermal fleece,

raincoat,

scarf,

2 gloves,

2 hoods,

hat,

tights,

leggings,

jeans,

2 pair socks.

Just as we got back it became a bit of a blizzard, glad I got home by then - phew!

My two were mad keen to get out. Built a tiny snowman in the tiny front garden but kept them happy. Probably a bit over the top in the hand-me-down ski gear but kept them warm. Was quite chuffed with myself for judging it right for once. Think I enjoyed the hot chocolate afterwards more than them though.

Cbeebies feast over lunchtime and now making toilet roll binoculars and happy.

This day has just gone too well......something big has got to go wrong soon!

I'm working today but was thinking we'd have stayed in if I wasn't - whilst I love the idea of fun playing in the snowy park, my little one went mental when out for 15 mins on sat, even in new fleecy snowsuit. He refuses hat, gloves and wellies which is a factor I feel...

Think it's worse today underfoot than it was yesterday - heading along Goodrich and down Dunstans Road felt like an ice rink underfoot despite me wearing my walking boots. Think it was only having the buggy that stopped me from going A over T.

Was even more annoying to reach the GP's to find that baby clinic was cancelled due to the weather.

Course the bugglet slept through all of this!

How's everyone finding getting out with a buggy? Mine is sturdy enough, but I'm still scared to take the little one out in case I fall over - she's only 2 months.

Other problem is that we live up by the Horniman, on a very steep hill, which is treacherous for walking, but very good for sledging!!

Shall I just stay put until I can go out and play with my 4 year old with someone looking after the baby?

Our normally 20 minute sprightly jaunt across the Rye to nursery was more like a 2 hour Shackletonesque trek across the frozen tundra this morning. Briony was absolutely delighted, though, and was literally rolling around in the snow like a puppy. A man walking his dog gave me a big smile and said, "Fantastic, isn't it?" which made my day.

First year that both of mine have managed OK out there. O at 6 played out for 3 hours yesterday after school, and made a fab snowman with her best friend. Little C at 2 manages about 30 minutes, but is not so good at keeping mittens on etc. so ends up with cold little hands and toes. I took her to bed when we got in and snuggled her up, was the only way to get her feet warm again, and she fell fast asleep for 90 minutes - lovely! She has also developed quite a taste for hot chocolate!

I've seen a few people use parcel tape to keep gloves/mittens on, and also around the top of wellies if need be. I think it's really tricky until they are 2 or more because they just can't be mobile enough to keep warm.

ladywotlunches - was OK out with the buggy today, but I've got a Mountain Buggy 3 wheeler, even so it was pretty hard pushing through the deeper snow off road. On the pavements it is now quite hard, icy and compacted. If you take the baby out do you have a loop on the buggy handle you can put around your wrist, then at least if you fall the pram wont take off down a hill without you, which is what terrifies me most. Has anyone considered using bungees to attach a Bugaboo pram body to a sledge??!!! LOL.

Re slipping - if you don't have good non slip footwear then putting a pair of socks over your wellies will help them to grip - as for style....hey it goes out the window at times like this in my opinion (yes I was the one sporting the genuine 1980's C&A Snowsuit on the school run for the past 2 days)....retro chic? Who cares, I am warm, and dry - let the snowballs come!!!

Lots more snow forecast from tonight at 9pm, all night and all day tomorrow from what I can gather, how exciting!

We built a snowman on Dawson's Heights yesterday on the way home from Goodrich School. On the way back in this morning noticed snowman had collapsed. attemps to re-build on way back this afternoon failed because the snow waas no longer the "right kind of snow".

3 yr old loving it (in 30 minute blasts) but I just feel very sorry for 1 yr old who is just getting very cold stuck in pram so mainly playing in garden which works nicely. We have a great (well I think so) snowman with a bob the builder hat and tools :)

Are the paths still icy or has the new snow made them Ok again?

I have an interview at 3 at LB, don't want to risk walking if icy as am pregnant but feel a bit rubbish cancelling......

The pavements are a lot easier than yesterday cos of the new snow however ClareC I honestly and truly wouldn't risk it. I've just been out going to Childminders and although not icy it is hard going. On the main board Sean was saying how he went head over t*t earlier and nothing is worth that. Don't feel rubbish. Wrap up warm and watch some trashy tv instead :)
