Trains and other transport running this morning? [The TravelWatch in the Snow Official thread]

Recommended Posts

I quite enjoyed the walk too - I think degrees of pleasantness will depend on what time you did it. After 7:30-8 ish it's going to be too busy to call it anything other than a slog

As yesterday, I walked up to Peckham Rye where they seem to be terminating/starting a lot of buses from, and got on a 63 no problem. In fact it was half empty. This was just before 9. Got to Blackfriars just after 9.30, which I though was pretty good. Seems that staggering the journeys is probably a good idea though. And I was amazed at the amount of traffic on the road around East Duliwch Road/Peckham Rye junction this morning - serious traffic jam.

So anyone waiting around the Clockhouse, just walk down the road a bit and you'll be fine (so long as you don't slip on the ice).

Just back from Sainsburys. East Dulwich Station is still closed - they've put the Southwark bins in the entrances to stop people going up to the platforms.

A 40 & 176 were parked facing south at the bus stop end of Ondine when I set out but are now gone & coming home I saw a 40 picking up passengers at the station stop (going into town) virtually empty.

Better under foot than yesterday, more snow & slush, less ice

I got a 40 into town from the library but it was, shall we say, experimental - at least until Camberwell, after which things were easier. Slow going the whole way though. Walking may have been quicker.
Hi Twirly - whereabouts exactly did you pick up the 63 from? We saw lots going in the other direction with "Peckham Rye" as the destination but waited 20-30 minutes by Peckham Library without managing to get one. The stop outside the station said it was not in use. Trying to line up an easier trip for tomorrow if the trains are bad again... Thanks.
Twirly, you lucky duckie! I walked/slid from Goodrich School to Peckham Rye Tesco, waited 40 minutes for a 63 before giving up and boarding the first central London-bound bus that came along. Ended up jumping out of a 12 at Elephant & Castle, and waiting an age for a 45 to Blackfriars. It took two-and-a-half hours and I still can't feel the end of my nose. *Wail* I'll definitely be heading home early.

Came back an hour ago from Aldgate/Gracechurch St.

Buses fine, with 185, 176, 40 seeming to run to end of route, and DKH fine.

Didn't check out trains.

This morning's experience was:

- 40 and 12 not running from the Library

- 185 on diversion via Barry Rd

- 12 only running from Peckham to Camberwell Green

and hundreds of people trying to get onto buses (many more than usual) with most buses not stopping because they were full.

so I ended up getting 197 down Barry Rd, 12 from the Rye to Camberwell Green (where it turned around), 45 to Elephant and 40 from there to Aldgate. All buses this side of Camberwell were moving super slow, some barely more than walking pace, and some were taking pretty odd routes and not stopping at bus stops even when they were not full.

I say this only because the same may happen again tomorrow (given that snow is falling 5/10 here in Dulwich southside).

Major respect to bus driver of the 12 this morning. Handling one of those monsters on these roads would be nerve racking to say the least. (Sorry for posting non-advice/question, but it had to be said).

    • Copleston centre hire for adult parties
    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
