Trains and other transport running this morning? [The TravelWatch in the Snow Official thread]

Recommended Posts

I got in around 3.30. At that point, the 185/176 were being diverted to go through Peckham rather than up DKH. They were then coming along LL and all the way up to the Horniman. It was a long and slow diversion through Peckham though so if you're trying to get to town (and really really NEED to go), it might be quicker to walk to Brixton and hop on the Tube.

Bus routes tonight that are curtailed or diverted in the SE22 area (data from the TfL website)

176: Tottenham Court Road to Camberwell only.

63: Kings Cross to Peckham Rye.

363: Elephant to Honor Oak.

P4: Diverted away from Honor Oak.

BBC London 94.9 also reports that buses in our area will finish earlier tonight than normal.

After being told by a 40 bus driver there were no buses going down DKH, I alighted at Camberwell Green, hailed a black taxi which then sailed past a 176 going down DKH ! Neither taxi or bus had any problems going down the hill.

Well for what it's worth ,when I was driving last night at 9.30 the main roads were perfectly driveable .

In the main I stuck to bus routes ,but Court Lane ,Eynella etc were all fine .

It didn't actually seem that cold and the gritted roads weren't freezing .

Not much help I know to this mornings debate .

Just drove back from Brighton. Roads are all driveable, but of course there are icy and snowy patches, so don't drive unless it's essential. Buses are running (I saw a 176 and a 185 along LL).
Not many of the London Bridge trains are running but the half hourly Sevenoaks to Victoria (stopping at Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill) is running fine and on time. I've used it to go into town and back today.

    • A shout out for Mark, owner of Pure Plumbers. 07970 971510 They're well established in the Sevenoaks area, but have recently started doing more work in SE London.  Did some v quick and efficient bathroom and boiler fixes for me; have also seen some of the bathrooms he's built, which have a nice attention to detail. • Totally agree regarding not supporting chains. Gail’s was fine but last time I went in Feb this year, actually walked out Fayetteville looking at menu and waiting 15 minutes to even get glass of water and not busy at all. Staff gone down hill - sooner it goes the better… Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture, pubs are also becoming abit of a hit and miss affair but maybe just unlucky. At the end of the day all about the chef. Still abit unclear where new place is located - is it down the road from Goose Green where parade of shops are before Peckham Rye?
    • Surely only where the local businesses offer clear advantages, otherwise you are rewarding what should be failure. I want to be served by a better bakery than Gail's, not a worse but local independent one. Certainly give a local independent some time to get the offer right, but don't buy goods which are worse and or more expensive just because the outlet isn't a chain.
    • Let’s just boycott all chains in favour of local businesses.  Places like Gail’s popping up everywhere has a very damaging impact on small businesses. It’s just the same as the new empanadas place but on a bigger scale. I’ll say it a million times more, we hold the power with our choices. Let’s use our power to look after ourselves and our environment (which includes small local family businesses). And yes, I also love Chacarero.
