Ladymuck
I've obviously pressed something on the keyboard, and I don't know what. The result is that I now have a green arrow light with underscore showing, a large box partially obscuring the screen containing what appears to be gibberish to me, and a box at the bottom of the screen displaying a white question mark in a blue circle. How do I get rid of this rubbish please? I've tried deleting but nothing happens and every time I click on the mouse I get a "ting"...it's getting on my...Help please?:-$ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14616-gawdmessed-upagain/ Share on other sites

Narnia
Can you email the document to someone and have them email it back if it's lost? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14616-gawdmessed-upagain/#findComment-388720 Share on other sites

SeanMacGabhann
Can you take a screenshot (press prtscrn - usually top right if keyboard) paste that into a file and attach on here so we can have a look. Hard to tell from your descriptionIs it a laptop or pc? Huguenot
It sounds like you may well have malware on your PC.Probably you should get this looked at asap, as you don't know what it's up to. If it starts suggesting virus scanners and such like, don't take its advice.I wouldn't email your document to someone else, as it may have the virus embedded within it - just email it to yourself if you need to. Ladymuck
Good idea Narnia but can't do - it's a private legal doc on behalf of a third party.External drive karter?:-S Email to myself? Ladymuck
Huguenot now I'm scared...but thanksSean...it's a PC...do you mean cut and paste the page containing gibberish? If so...here is the content: sh1t. it won't cut and paste...just makes that irritating "tinging" noise every time I click the mouse.I don't understand your other instructions - sorry:-$. I'm really crap at this computer stuff. And to cap it all, connection maddeningly slow and keeps on disconnecting...thanks BTW*bangs head on wall and screams* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14616-gawdmessed-upagain/#findComment-388735 Share on other sites
Ladymuck
OK, the large box which is partially obscuring screen is headed (IRONICALLY) "Windows Help and Support", but it doesn't respond to anything...I just get that effing "tinging"... Huguenot
I think SMG wanted a screen grab - there's probably a key up the top right hand side of your keyboard called something like 'Print Screen" or 'Prt Sc' etc. Here's detailed instructions. This will copy an image of the screen into your clipboard, you can then 'paste' this into a document which you can save to your computer and attach to a thread. binary_star
LM, I'm sure you realise this, but just a heads up - that screenshot might need a bit of cropping if you have any portion of the sensitive document in it! Ladymuck
Oh this is SO embarrassing...have pressed the PrtScn button (shared with SysRq - whatever that is) and nothing happens. Have looked at step 2 - and I haven't a clue as to what is meant by "Open an image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint" - paint? may as well be in Swahili! But what would CAUSE these irritations (i.e. the so-called "windows support" page and the green arrow with underscore to light up and for a white question mark in a blue circle to clog my screen? Narnia
This is very common with computer users and breadmakers so wouldn't worry too much. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14616-gawdmessed-upagain/#findComment-388753 Share on other sites
Ladymuck
No b_s, I don't realise anything...I really, really AM dumb with computers...but I am able to minimise the legal doc so the irritations are currently on the EDF...thanks btw xOh dear...The irony is that hubby is an IT Design Consultant...but he isn't contactable today and isn't going to arrive home till very late...*sigh* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14616-gawdmessed-upagain/#findComment-388756 Share on other sites
binary_star
LM, paint is a program which you can find under Start > All programs > Accessories I think but also think this depends on your OS. You can crop the image in Paint too. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14616-gawdmessed-upagain/#findComment-388757 Share on other sites

binary_star
Ok, let's try something else. There is a 'start' button or windows icon at the bottom left of your screen. Click it and then click the option that says 'run' then enter "mspaint" in the box and hit enter. Did that do anything?
