When you went into Osgoods the sweet shop on Forest Hill Road, then next door into the dairy shop, the greengrocers where the Turkish supermarket is now and the little bakers (was part of a local chain of bakers) just slightly further down from what used to be the doctors surgery upstairs.

When you remember

- the barber shop opposite the police station on crystal palace road (Upland road side), the barber used to shave all the beards of the police officers from the station with his 2 daughters giggling as they lathered the policemen's beards.

- the slipper baths in Dulwich public baths

- Gordons greengrocers (where the turkish greengrocers is now on forest hill road)

- the little indian sweet shop on Forest Hill Road - next to Jonathans newsagents

- the jeans shop at the back of Dulwich police station on Lordship Lane...what went on in the back?

- Waverley school girls having to wear their red netball skirt and kit, on the main road on Peckham Rye

- the butchers shop with sawdust on the floor on Forest Hill Road (along where Beauty Plus is)

- 7.11 opening up and being the cool shop to go to..and yes the slurpies

- the tyres that you would jump on in Peckham Rye Adventure Playground, before the days of health and safety.:))

yes dbboy that's the butchers, Linghams!

I remember the electric fly catchers that they used to have in the shop:)

Later Linghams moved to Peckham Rye (where the Blue Tit hairdressers now is I believe)

I also remember the bakers, owned by the same chap who had a bakery in Dulwich Village.

With all the bits of information add in it brings back memories of how it used to be.

Believe one off Licence was Gallions and the other Unwins with W.Uden the undertakers one door away and a workshop making coffins round the back.

Ha! I was one of those girls wearing the red jumpers,my friends and I were a lovely bunch but I'll be the first to admit that were some rough scary girls at Waverley.

When my mum used to pop to the shop (where St Christopher's shop next to the cafe is) to pay off for our new beds.

When we used to get videos from Blockbusters.

When the Offie man on the corner of Landells Road/Lordship Lane would sell us booze even though we were underage.

When Hisar was Yilmaz and was constantly visited by the police.

When Waverley School used to have a swimming pool.

I went in there as a teenager to buy some 501s. Guy didn't do anything leery, but when I went out back to try them on, there was a small sofa, and it and the floor were covered in porn mags.

All very odd.

    • Can someone please explain who "one Dulwich" are?
    • We are actually referred to as "Supporters"...2,100 of us across Dulwich...read and weep! 😉   https://www.onedulwich.uk/supporters   Got it, the one where 64% of respondents in the consultation area said they wanted the measures "returned to their original state". Is that the one you claim had a yes/no response question?   Well I suggest you read up on it as it is an important part of the story of utter mismangement by the councils and this is why so many of us can't work out who is pulling the council's strings on this one because surely you can agree that if the emergency services were knocking on your door for months and months telling you the blocks in the roads were delayihg response times and putting lives at risk you'd do something about it? Pretty negligent not to do so don't you think - if I was a councillor it would not sit well with me?   Careful it could be a Mrs, Miss or Mx One.....   Of course you don't that's because you have strong opinions but hate being asked for detail to.back-up those opinions (especially when it doesn't serve their narrative) and exposes the flaws in your arguments! 😉  As so many of the pro-LTN lobby find to their cost the devil is always in the detail.....
    • Really?  I'm sorry to hear that. What did you order?
