in relation to this thread, i agree with those saying the speculation and generalisation shouldn't be in this thread - a young man has been killed and for me this thread/this time in the immediate aftermath is a time to express condolences and for reflection, not for blaming parents/hip hop/sainsburys

The young man murdered on Saturday morning is the thrid young person to be murdered in the capital this year. I'd say that is a problem that needs to be addressed. It is quite clear that the people involved (whatever the cause of events) were a) young and b) carrying weapons including a gun.

So any discussion around those issues is relevant to this thread. Pretending that there might be some other less horrifying scenario to all this is just burying a head in the sand.

We should absolutely be asking why are some of our kid's so out of control and devoid of compassion that they see fit to carry knives, guns and be ready to use them to their end means?

I agree with DJKQ on this, we cannot bury are head in the sand I cannot speak in regards to the parents on this particular case but through my experience working in this area there are some parents who cannot cope don?t care or even afraid of there children. I worked with mentors that have tried to turn young men mainly black men lives around and there has been a few success rates a neighbour of mine I knew a few years ago had trouble with two of her sons and she was at the end of her tether.

I advised her to contact Boys to Men which is a group that helps troubled young boys her son attended the group regularly and he turn his life a round and now he is a mentor for other young men unfortunately for her other son he was shot dead only because he was in the wrong area at the wrong time and he was not Semalin.

Reading that has made me really sad about the killing of Daniel Thompson-Graham. He must have been so bloody scared, no one deserves for their last moments on this earth to be filled with fear like that. Why did he have to get off the 176 that he'd jumped on to I wonder?

It's like it's all just a game to them, and I'm not sure zero tolerance would stop it, because I just don't think they give a second thought to consequences.

Dear oh dear, same blinkered people on here saying its London aint it we should expect it. Its happens because you allow it to happen. There was a man shot in daylight in ED not so long ago!! The things dont happen in Chelsea or Wimbledon - and they are in London.

Until we start being honest and direct without fear of being labeled discrimination then its only goin got get worse. The good thing here is that they seem to only shoot each other.

I liveed in ED for nearly 7 years, I felt more and more intimidated as tiem went on especially at night. The fianl straw was a group of lads literally kicking the front door in, at my flat when they thought no one was in with my wife asleep in bed.

Thankfully we bought a house Sevenoaks instead of climbing the ladder in ED - totally different area and so much nicer

Of course the rate of knife crime is higher in the less well off areas, and you've just chosen 2 very well off areas. However, a very quick google search will give you plenty of stories of knife crime in both Wimbledon and Chelsea.

For goodness sake, one person is dead and others injured, including a 14 year old (My kids are 9 and 12 and it bloody scares me). What do you mean 'they only shoot eachother' - they are all someone's son (or daughter).

TJ, I also wondered if it was something like that, or the driver saw the group chasing, and didn't want trouble on the bus. Still, we don't know, and I don't want to be unfair to the driver, who may have had nothing to do with it.

The gang crime that goes on in South London (if this incident is an of gang crime, which seems to be the assumption on the information there is), rarely affects innocent people. It would have been highly frightening to have been in the area when it was going on, but the liklihood of being hurt yourself would have been minimal if you had no affinity to either groups involved. At the end of the day, most gang crime that goes on, effects only other gang members, and as harsh as it may sound, i am glad about that. When it is the norm, that gangs just go round randonly killing people (alla clockwork orange) is the time to move out of East Dulwich. Before then, I dont think 'ordinary people' have too much to worry about

I know what you're saying, but too much is labelled "gang crime", when actually it's just that someone (possibly a gang member) feels they've been disrepected by someone else. It doesn't matter if that someone else is in a gang or not!

You can't make assumptions, just because someone was at a birthday party doesn't make them a member of a gang! As I said earlier, my kids are heading towards their teens and in two or three years it could be them at a similar party, bullets and knives can affect all young people, regardless of whether they are in a gang or not.

I am not saying that gang v gang is not happening, but there cases where innocent people get caught up in the cross fire and it is not as rare as you think.
