I love the fact that if anyone dares to judge anyone by their clothes or car the they are the 'cock', but judging 1100+ as 'sad and lonely' is ok is it?

I'd post some response about why that isn't the case, but it doesn't look like you're being particularly reasonable stumpy.

As for jon being bullied, if you bothered to read it through you'll see how inclusive people were being and how quickly he got into the spirit of things.

That spirit, in case you blinked and missed, involves having a sense of humour.

Take ten minutes out, breathe deeply, have a fag or a cup of coffee and return should you so wish; try smiling this time though.

Stop it now.

Half of you dont drive anyway, yet you sound like a room full of Jeremy Clarksons.

I think that you ALL need to go and sit on the naughty step for 15 minutes to calm down.

Its JUST a car. A few years ago, it didnt exist, in a few more years it wont exist. Its impact on our lives is minimal.

Regardless of your personal taste in cars someone has had their property vandalized. That?s the issue here.

I would be blindly mad and quite possibly act a bit unreasonably if it happened to my car. The guy has my every sympathy and I hope they catch the buggers who did it.

As for taste in motors, if people don?t buy new Porsches now then in 20 years time there won?t be any classics around for people like me to appreciate, thereby making themselves seem cool and interesting.

My word.

this certainly is getting a bit frantic - I think too many people have been up all night playing the eagerly awaited Halo3 and drinking the too much non vegetarian bulls guts tainted red bull.

Ive had 911.

they can be fantastic drivers cars- althou using one in the mean streets of SE22 is a bit wasteful - but its a fine line between taken as an enthuisiast of the growling flat 6 and viewed as cock- thats part of the package - If you are an adult, then you should be able to live with your decisions.

cars get bumped and scrathced in LOndon, sometimes vandalised - and dont assume its motivated by jealosy either.

It could have been worse, you have have had a Bentley - those really are vulgar and I would have probabaly joined in the vandalising party.

What he said.

In all seriousness, it sucks to mess up someone elses stuff, be it a car, a window, or a beautiful guitar. Maybe this thread went a bit too light hearted a bit too quickly. However, there were some serious over reactions!

Um.

I dont know how much posters know aboutthis particular incident and the characters involved ? not much it would seem

Obviously the specifics cant be discussed cos of Copper / prosecution situation- so I wont comment on it.

The interesting thing is that the people involved sum up the problems we have in ED - dare I say the increasing gaps between long terms residents and relatively wealthy incomers - in fact , theo whole incident bring in other areas we have discussed at lengh on this MB - one of whch is more than a little emotional and has a high likeleyhood of a knee jerky response.

some might say its lucky it was only a car ionvolved

in fact, about the only topic of late that this incident doesnt directly involve is Foxtons

scarey!

its a vicious circle - as more people get dropepd kerbs, more people want them to protectt their own parking space and street parking places become less available, tempers frayed, tyres punctured, paddington bear style hard stares used more frequently.

Dont mean to be patronising - many Middle class people who now live in ED dont realise that giving someone a hard stare and a scowl over a perceived slight like parking over a dropped kerb can have apalling unexpected consequences - we are after all in SE London, surroudend by some dreadful eatstes with terrible deprivation and within spitting distance to a m major psyciatric hospital.

the hard real world came sometimes inavade and bite your arse - whether its right or wrong is another matter.

Ashbourne is (as I'm sure everyone knows) a 'premier' ED street, but whenever I'm around that part of town you do get more of a feeling of old residents / new residents - and the potential for clash feels higher there as well.

There's still the same mix of old and new where I am but I don't get that feeling at all. I think the amount of multiple occupancy has something to do with it. Wherever I've lived in London more flats = more bovver.

"premier ED street"

urgh.

never ever ever assume that cos an area is on the up, everyone is prepared to talk through problems over a cup of Earl Grey and a handshake or a vague threat of a solicitors letter

Even Ashbourne has people that you should never ever cross, even if they do not appear to be any obvious threat.

treat everyone in your street with respect and at the same level, and you will make everyones lives a great deal easier.

It

I always post when I'm feeling lonely. Why not?

If I'm feeling sad I prefer to be alone or with a loved one.

I think you asked for that though *Bob*.

You are a bit hard on people especially those with status symbols you can't afford or conversely houses that aren't as good as yours.

Anyway Stumpy if you are ever sad or lonely or need a plumber...

    • It doesn't matter what channel it was on, how pernicious the subject is and when it happened. Mis-representing the truth in broadcast is not only morally wrong, it's against the OFCOM code of ethics.  Everyone in the industry is trained in how not to do it, most are made to take the BBC's own 'Safeguarding the Trust' course, even if they aren't making BBC programmes.  There wasn't much fuss at the time, because no one knew about it.  "Unless you hate Britain, hate liberals, hate the BBC, want a divided country, support the most powerful person in the world despite his many failings". What the programme makers personally think or feel should never affect how they tell a story; to do so is deeply unprofessional and a sackable offence.  It's the job of the BBC and of all programming to inform viewers of the facts and let them make up their own minds. Even in campaigning documentaries.
    • Hadn't realised that the Panorama programme that people are up in arms about was over a year ago.  There wasn't much fuss at the time so why drag it up.  Unless you hate Britain, hate liberals, hate the BBC, want a divided country, support the most powerful person in the world despite his many failings. The programme was clumsy, but the vast majority of us know that Trump had an influence.  So the Telegraph has played into his hands.
    • I tried a Lime bike once, too heavy and bulky for me but I understand that many really like them.  And very much support the concept.
