The Parakeet (formally The Parrot) Thread (i.e. DJ not required - Lounge suit only because ...)

Recommended Posts

I often see them on the golf course (feel free to bring my taste in trousers into question) in Beckenham. I've also seen them in Dulwich Park and I saw 1 on Peckham Rye last week.

There are shedloads in SW London.

I hear them in my flat. Thats me in the flat, not them - hence I have never actually seem them when peering out of my windows. I am opposite Goose Green and near Peckham Rye - perhaps they are spreading their little green wings?

My personal theory is that they are descended from a group of pigeons that nested in an old nuclear waste container that washed up on the banks of the Thames sometime in the ?80s.

Their is an innocuous office in a building on Whitehall filled with filling cabinets and a messy haired man in a tweed suit who has been cataloging their activities since the early ?90s.

A pair of MI5 agents engaged on another line of enquiry* have been following a trail of clues that has led them to his door.

*A pensive young man (perhaps played by a young Jack Palance) and his domineering, fast talking, sexy female partner (definitely Billy Piper).

The BBC has questions...and answers

They're taking over London!

Someone has even put YouTube footage of them online but I don't think that sort of time-wasting behaviour should be encouraged so I'm not linking to that. :-S

Is it me or are there more of them this year?

From where I am, they regularly commute between Goose Green and the Rye - squawking as they go. Last year I heard the occasional squawk but didnt see them - this year they can be seen flying back and forth all the time.

    • Farage has done nothing but divide and diminish this country, all in the name of his ego and his bank balance. Brexit has made us poorer and has damaged our influence in the world. He supported Trump who is directly threatening our interests and he supported Liz Truss' disastrous budget. He has done his best to ensure our country's decline and now people too proud to admit their mistakes and the deleterious impact of UKIP / The Brexit party / Reform Ltd are again voting for him to finish the job / nail down the coffin lid. Yes, he is a plastic patriot.
    • You clearly don’t know Peckham Rye station there are lifts but they’re not available to the public. Actually, they were made available when the art exhibition was on.  Priorites again.
    • I'm not going to claim 2 old men arguing on line ISN't boring - but it's on a thread about the viability of(or otherwise) of Reform winning power in this country. If they do take power, it will because people like jazzer get away with making claims like they do without challenge I'm challenging him, and like most reform voters, he starts crying I'm twisting his words? do YOU think I'm twisting his words? if so, how? Because it's important if Reform do win power it won't be boring, it will be very bad for the country and I will know who to blame
    • I think it's a false dichotomy. Lift maintenance is a priority and I doubt the delays in fixing them is to do with lack of funding. Whether they go ahead with this scheme of not, will make zero difference to how lift maintenance is being managed. There seems to be general opposition to any form of change across this forum.
