Not quite as simple as that though is it? If money were no object I wouldn't have to think about how long my commute to work was because I wouldn't be working. Or consider how affordable property was in the dream area. But it has to be said, as compromises go, this is a pretty decent one.

I've lived in Dulwich pretty much all my life and wouldn't really want to move out of the area so a nice big house in the village would do me but if I did move out and money was no object I'd quite fancy number 3 Cheyne Walk (Keith Richards old house) on the Chelsea embankment and and weekend pile on the Kent/Sussex borders near the sea.

If there's still a points system, maybe because they don't have enough points.

I once looked into moving there but didn't meet the criteria because I was a) too old b) didn't have a zillion pounds savings and c) didn't have scarce skills. I think the only thing I got points for was my educational level :-$

Not England.

Definitely not England.

In fact nowhere on this piss drenched archipelago comes close to somewhere I would actually want to live if work, money and my family weren?t the motivating factors. Apart from London maybe for what it offers as a city but I?m over that now.

My own island in the Cyclades I think. With a surfable break and an island of ill repute close by so that I don?t get bored.

    • Why did you feel the need to post that? Have you actually read the rest of the thread?
    • He lived in my road, so I bumped into him quite often, but I knew him as Mick, not Mike. We originally met at the opening of The Actress. Crikey, how long ago that seems now. He had a fox in his window 🤣 Not a real one, obviously. I only found out that he had died because I hadn't seen him around for a while,  so I mentioned it  on our road WhatsApp group, and someone on there told me. He had been ill for some time, but he was just in the middle of what must have been extremely expensive private  dental treatment (a lot of implants) so I assume his death was sadly unexpected.
    • Not in the same position but are you able to access the physical meter to take your own readings ? You could do this as frequently as you wanted to. I think TW are rolling out smart meters that don’t need to be physically read by them, and perhaps that’s what you have. I think that TW will only change your monthly direct debit once every 6 months, when you get the official statement.
    • Has anyone else had a water meter fitted in the last couple of years but is not being billed on the actual consumption as measured by the meter. I ask because after our meter was fitted 18 months ago, we could see the actual meter readings on our online account. This was helpful in terms of monitoring the consumption down to a day to day basis. However after about 6 months, the meter readings were no longer published online. I recall earlier advice from TW that  we would have a 12 month "trial" period after which we could opt to switch to metered consumption or stay on the rate based on the rateable value of our house.  As there's only two of us in the house, I reckon our actual consumption is well below the RV based consumption rate so with a bit of cynicism I reckon TW has deliberately discontinued publishing the meter reading.  Had the readings continued to be published, then we could have made an informed decision on whether or not to move to metered billing. Is anyone else in a similar position?
