Hello all

I'm a new reporter on the Southwark patch of the South London Press, and since Tom Parnell has departed I thought I'd say hello and leave my details if any of you ever have any issues you want to raise.

You can drop me a line here, email [email protected] or call the office on 0208 710 6512.

Many thanks,

Jenny

Hi Jenny

Did you know there's a public meeting tonight, 20.15 at the community centre on Crystal Palace Road? It's about the proposed late night pharmacy and needle dump. Seeing as the thread here was shut due folks getting ott with each other it might be quite charged and worth a look.

I got a leaflet through the post. Its not an official 'public meeting' (that has various requirements). Its the usual Bara General Meeting, but everyone is welcome to attend. Bara's main topic is the pharmacy, but I've seen that there are also quite a few others topics on the agenda.

Don't worry, Tom will be back for next year's charity challenge cricket match playing for the SLP.

Glad to see we amuse from time to time - the SLP always has had a slightly macabre take on things, and we get away with far more dark humour than you'll find in other local papers.

See what you've taken on, Jenny? Hope you're up (or down) to the SLP's level of "reporting". I have to admit I never buy and rarely read the rag, simply because of those hideous headlines and how it seems to be aimed at - well, no that would be offensive to say. Am I a snob? Can I afford to be a snob AND live in NunheadRye? ;)

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
