No it's the noise which has created the oversensitivity!

The lack of noise allowed you to sleep in?

Runway resurfacing alters night-time flight patterns

Runway resurfacing is an essential maintenance task that comes round roughly once every decade. Last year we resurfaced the southern runway. During 2014, we'll be resurfacing the northern runway. Because Heathrow is so busy, this work needs to takes place at night.

That will mean changes to the pattern of night-time flights. From 23rd March to 31st October, most aircraft flying after 10.30pm and before 6am will use the southern runway.

Since Heathrow has relatively few night flights, the changes won't affect many aircraft ? mostly arrivals after 4.30am. There will be no additional night flights.

What does this mean for you?

If you live under the flight path for the southern runway, you'll experience more night-time aircraft noise than usual

If you live under the flight path for the northern runway, you'll experience less.

Back to the noise.

Westerly operations today.

But flights must have been further north as the noise sounded 1/3 to 1/2 of last weeks levels, that could be down to wind direction but the wind is very light so probably not.

From 6.30 did noise did become more intrusive but right now 9.00am nothing ?

See flight path below shows many flight are not over ED but over the Thames this morning.

I'm abroad at the moment but I hear last Thursday's meeting was poorly attended.

Anyone going to Tuesday's?

Probably poorly attended because for most people this isn't a big problem.

Looks like I made a lucky guess, eh... Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Anyhow, I'd appreciate hearing about Tuesday's meeting, please.

Just back home in ED.

Drone central.

watching top gear and the aircraft noise is constant.

drone drone drone.. In the background constant rumble.

99% of people don't want to make a fuss about negative issues.

maybe the ostrich in them stops them from making a fuss.

    • Southwark and Lambeth may have some spaces but this is not the case of other London boroughs nearby particularly at secondary level. Also this is not just a London issue. There are many regions throughout the UK that have no school places available (eg Kent due to new housing developments, rural areas, Surrey, Guildford, Edinburgh etc). Just because you feel it doesn’t affect you, does not mean it’s right.  You also need to consider the proportion of foreign students in many of the private schools in the area which distorts the impression that local people can pay private school fees and suck up an additional £4-5k per child and per year. And sadly, the psychological and emotional impact on children is not even being discussed.
    • Step in a child’s shoes just for one moment and think what it would be like to have to move schools in the middle of the year away from your friends, teachers, community etc. due to a political stunt. I doubt the money will even go into education. The UK will be become the only European country to tax education. Primary schools have some capacity where I live but I have enquired and there are currently no places for secondary school where I live. Again, so easy to be smug and say we should have pre planned a potential outcome 5 years ago when you live in your £2-3m homes next to the best state schools in Dulwich (like Keir Starmer!)
    • Please let me know if anyone is selling a Hemnes daybed in the near future. Thanks
    • Birth rate collapses sounds a bit like Armageddon.  It's a mixture of a decline following a bulge, where many schools had to increase intake, and families moving out of the capital due to high cost of housing.  Now that is an irony, that only wealthy families, many who can afford private schooling, can afford to live in many parts of London.
