Agree it will be a long time... we'll probably have our cycle superhighway before then and that's not scheduled til 2015.

I think they've set the gearing so that the very unfit have a chance to use them. I can't imagine using them in anything other than 3rd and it feels v low compared to my regular one.

Apparently there have been a few nicked and spotted in other places outside the zone like Croydon etc

ha, my housemates went out in Shoreditch and after a few beers stumbled across a Boris Bike stand. Their hazy, blurry eyes convinced them that the terms and conditions were ?1 hire for 24 hours use!!! I woke up in our East Dulwich house to find 2 Boris Bikes in the corridor, and 2 smarmy housemates, convinced they'd found 'the secret' to cheap transport in London. In the 23rd hour they returned the bikes to Elephant & Castle. 3 weeks later, got their bank statements, ?52 EACH!

    • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
    • Truly horrific. Being passive or fighting back is what many of us think about by violent theft.
    • What ridiculous waste of money
    • Lots of good primary schools within reach of there. Fairlawn, Goodrich, Ivydale and Horiman. Secondary schools you will definitely get into the Harris Academies or Sydenham Girls or Forest Hill Boys, you might just be on the boundary for the East Dulwich or North Dulwich Charter but it changes every year.
