Bumping this old thread - has Camberwell Grove been reopened yet?

I ask because I was driving home last night - from Vauxhall Bridge I always tend to wind up coming down Camberwell New Road and then turning up Camberwell Grove to get to DKH. Last few times (I don't tend to come that way very often) the Grove has been shut and I have wound up winding my way through the backstreets of Peckham. Anyway, last night the satnav thing suggested a right turn onto Denmark Hill - but you're not allowed to turn right there unless you're driving a bus (and I wasn't).

So. What's the news with the Grove? And failing that - what's the best alternative route? Or does one have to go through Peckham?

You can turn left near the HSS Hire place and then under the bridge and you come out by the bingo hall on the Walworth Road and then you can go straight on up Denmark Hill.

Or the other alternative is to right onto Flodden Road and take the second exit on the roundabout by the Prince ??? pub follow that road all the way to the junction with coldharbour lane, you can then turn left back to the corner Junction with Nandos on the corner or right and then and then left at the second lights upto Red Post Hill.

This route along Medlar Street has been the "normal" route for years, but it's not very well sign-posted.

The new layout seems too complicated and not very safe, particularly for bikes.

Walking down there today, I watched two lorries and a van reversing in the road, as they could not fit through the restrictions.

I can't see why they didn't stop all cars going down, it was so much quieter.

quieter? for who? not those on surrounding roads.

i agree the layout is ridiculous but was the only 'safe option' considering half the bridge is still structurally unsound. i understand it to be temporary before they (Network Rail) replace it entirely in about 1 million years time. the irony is they could have replaced it in the 2 years it took to get it re-opened.

It also includes the short part of Goodrich Road between Upland Road and Dunstans Road. Tomskip I used 0800 138 9081 then option 3 The first person I spoke to didn't know anything about it but when I rang a second time the person I spoke to had to download something to give me access to it. It has been planned for ages and was supposed to start today but there are no signposts up yet. There is another separate school street which covers Etherow street and Friern Road between Goodrich Road and Lordship Lane.
