Bic Basher
Note that there are some other new ward areas and changes of name that affect SE21/22.Dulwich Wood replaces College.Dulwich Village replaces Village.Dulwich Hill and Goose Green replaces part of Peckham Rye and East Dulwich with a tiny part of College.Champion Hill replaces South Camberwell.Peckham Rye will only cover the side of SE22 on the other side of Forest Hill Road, i.e Therapia Road. rendelharris
I've moved a fair bit round South London over the years and never knew what ward I was in until the next election came round. People don't really use ward names to decide on property purchases, do they? DulwichFox
House prices in East Dulwich often comes down to Individual roads.Properties on Fellbrigg, Ulverscroft, Nutfield and Archdale were once very south after. I believe the Market, M&S and other Lordship Lane outlets have increased traffic using these roads to park in.This alone makes these roads less favourable. Prices will be on the decline. PeckhamRose
I live on the road called Peckham Rye but not on the SE22 side which is nuts that they are calling one of the wards Peckham Rye Ward. And as for affecting house prices why on earth would it affect them? Do YOU care what ward you are in (and what they are called) when you move? KidKruger
No, I think actually Fellbrigg, Ulverscroft, Nutfield and Archdale are more sort of the ghetto of the ED.Crystal Palace Rd, now THAT is well sought after ! Penguin68
I don't believe this is just a change of ward name but also of ward boundaries. So it is not just College becomes Dulwich Wood, as some of College becomes Dulwich Hill (eh, what's that when it's at home?) And 'East Dulwich' is not entirely contiguous with Goose Green which does replace much of it. I can't find an up to date map, but attached is a link to the proposal map.https://consultation.lgbce.org.uk/node/5979 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/179282-change-of-ward-name/#findComment-1210862 Share on other sites
EDOldie
Dulwich Hill is the old name for Denmark Hill and that sort of area. I.e. between Dulwich and Camberwell. So the new Dulwich Hill seems to be Barry Road area which doesn't seem right historically or geographically, or anything really. Lordship or Barry would be better.Village Ward used to be called Ruskin I'm sure. Can't remember the others. What they really need to get on with is changing the Parliamentary boundaries. Penguin68
I suspect that they are using Dawson Heights as their 'Hill'. It is sort of central to the new Ward. James Barber
I pointed this out to the Electoral Commission but they weren't interested. We even suggested that Dulwich Hills would be better than Dulwich Hill if they were totally wedded to this.I suggested College ward name be changed as it seemed bizarre in this age to name a political ward after a private school that the majority of residents had no association with. The good this is the Goose Green ward and the Dulwich Hill ward are clos to 100% of the East Dulwich area. In the latest (final consultation now closed) iteration ?south Southwark? is lumped in with parts of Lewisham. I don?t think it makes any sense and the new system means - in theory at least - that we get new boundaries at every single General Election. The latest legislation results in a jigsaw puzzle that will fit constituencies around the numbers rather than any attempt to achieve local representation based on established communities. Anyway the wards in the old Dulwich seat were:The LaneBellendenWaverleyLyndhurstAlleynRyeRuskinCollege...and Barset in Nunhead which was removed to Peckham from the 1983 election onwards. The new Goose Green ward is not a million miles away from the old Bellenden ward in that it traverses East Dulwich Road. It would have been wrong to have retained the East Dulwich name as the ward encompasses parts of SE15 as well as SE22. nxjen
Champion Hill was a distinct area that existed long before the creation of East Dulwich, in fact East Dulwich Station was originally called Champion Hill. Bic Basher
College is largely the same area as before, however it loses the area surrounding Dawson's Heights to Dulwich Hill. The Dulwich Wood boundary will be the Lordship Lane Estate, crossing over to Melford Road and then along Wood Vale towards Lordship Lane.So most of Underhill Road will be in Dulwich Hill, with the section between Melford and LL in Dulwich Wood as now. Calling the area Champion Hill makes no difference at all. Everyone I know living here calls it Camberwell on the north side of the lights at Dog Kennel Hill School, and East Dulwich on the south, probably because that is where the postcode changes from SE5 to SE22 (though maybe only on th right side of the road?). It?s just interesting to hear what the background is, and the thoughts of those outside looking in. Penguin68
The map is interactive and can show the current and revised wards Indeed - but the words used to describe it are 'final proposals' and final recommendations (in a link). As I read it this words do not mean (but maybe are intended to?) - 'final agreed changes'. I'm assuming, from what James B says, that that is what they are (the final deal) but the words don't quite say that. Hence me saying 'I can't find an up to date link' which clearly states these are the wards for and from the 2018 London elections.
