Would second the Coal Rooms. Literally had one of the most delicious meals of my life there. Though you do have to practically step over lots of homeless people on the way out (it's right in the station) which makes you feel a bit wretched when you're stuffed to the gills with beautiful food...

Voodoo Ray was a disaster when we went in the first week. Nowt wrong with a few teething problems but it was the shrug of the shoulders that got me, the long queues and the poor information on the menu (most things were off). Only stayed because it was half price. Anyway, trendy place, will be successful, what do I an old timer know?

The taco place next to the pub is good, but not up market.

My recent experience is that everything is booked well in advance.

Of course the Peckham Levels is the place to be - so successful that they were running out of food on opening weeks (but far more forgivable than Voodoo)

Bar story makes sense but don't think does food late, and the Brick Brewery is Ace but being refurbed I think and again doesn't do late food.

I am known for jibes at LL expense but on this occasion justified. There is a separate question about lack of diversity in the restaurants in what still is a diverse area but that is for another thread.

Why are you proud of only going in McD's for one purchase of a tea? I am not a fan boy, but I recognise that its size and influence allows it to preach best practice, in terms of training, organic/local (ie. British) sourcing, consistency of standards, etc. etc. I have never had a bad time in McD's and often I am pleased with its food, its staff and its standards. (I go about four or five times a year, mainly for breakfast, FWIW.)

Back on track, I think Franklin's has to be the standout place in and around EDF-Land.

Cultural imperialism. I am sure you can say the same about Starbucks, Pret and all the rest. What gets me is the brand loyalty (or perhaps it is simple familiarity), we have to have Pret's on either side of the street to save people having to cross the road. Anyway it has its uses, in Budapest where I struggled to get a decent cup of tea and needed a wee. I am sure there are plenty of counterarguments but la la le la la, I am not listening.

Now where can I best buy that specialist gadget. No I don't want to go to the specialist shop when I can get it from Amazon....

Over attentive with me if anything and quiet when I went for a takeaway and pint at the bar there :)

I don't go anywhere when they've just opened - not an early adopter of restaurants.

    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.
    • https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/violent-crime-plunges-london-homicide-rate-b1247078.html Worth doing a little checking before making assumptions about violent crimes. Recent data suggests a drop in violent crime. Gang violence will make a significant contribution to the numbers. You are unlikely to be attacked by a stranger
    • Unfortunately there are plenty of shops which don't care and will sell vapes, alcohol and weed to minors, I'm sure they won't care about selling them fireworks. Or the kids nick them.
    • It’s getting a bit annoying. We’ve a nervous dog who trembles when they go off. I know to expect it around Halloween and Diwali but it seems to be happening more through the year.
