I had to be at london bridge today at 2.30, I left my house at 12:50 and got to the bus stop(dulwich library) at 1:00. The board said the 40 was due in 17 minutes which was a pain but was the only bus I could get so i waited it out.

I waited 45 minutes and gave up, had to get the 176 to elephant and castle and change.

I know that the camberwell accident and road works have effected a few bus routes but at dulwich library everything is back on track.

whats up with the 40!?

Would have been easier to get a train from East Dulwich Station to London Bridge direct.

With regards to the 40, it may have possibly broke down en route.I have noticed a number of buses in London breaking down recently. Was the 40 still showing on the countdown monitor throughout the duration of your wait?

Also my rule of thumb is after 20 mins of waiting, find an alternative route. most of the time buses that are running quite late tend to simply "go out of service" to get to the garage for the next shift.

If I was at the plough I would have checked how many 40 buses were parked up at top if Barry rd

None = something Very Wrong after 10 minutes. Plan b required!

But I know the psychology behind "well I've waited 20 minutes, I've INVESTED dammit, it must be around the corner" so I do sympathise. Did everything work out when you got there?

Yes that was exactly my thought StaferJack!

I have to walk past the top of Barry road to get to Dulwich Library and there were no 40's there.

Yeah there were about six 40's on the board all saying like 'due' '3 mins' '12 mins' all the way up to 35 mins!

I did eventually get there in time, only just! But with no thanks to the 40 haha.

I recently had a similar wait at the Plough for a 40... allegedly due in 17 minutes but took well over half an hour to arrive. Then two came at once so everybody got on the first one. The second one went roaring off up the road, then the one we were on spent ages at each stop "to regulate the service". Then halfway up the road the driver announced that he'd be terminating at Monument instead of Aldgate. I'm now seeing "17 minutes" as code for "we have no idea when the bus is coming, you should probably make alternative arrangements".
I know this is a bit late now but only just read this thread, the number 40 buses were going up Peckham Rye by the train station on Wednesday morning! They were going in both directions. But that was at about 7.45am I noticed that when I was waiting for the 63. But no idea if they would still be going that way at 2pm.

    • Was planning to come on here to ask if anyone might know which celeb/royal came through Lordship Lane yesterday - was on my way up to Spurs, on bus at the roundabout by the EDT when some whistling police cyclists pulled the traffic to the side of the road to allow a biggish range rover to shoot past, on the way up towards Dog Kennel Hill. Could only make out two, maybe middle-aged, men in the front before it passed. Mildly hysterical lady on pavement was laughing/screeching with her friend that they were desperately trying to find out who it was. Had more reason to post after this lunchtime's experience. Had just got to bus stop opposite the M&S by the station when some mini cooper thing bombed through the traffic, swerving across to cut up another car to get up the hill, before two or three police cars followed about 20 seconds behind. Said mini cooper thing then reappeared coming the other way, beeping its horn to get other cars out the way before it bombed up what I think was Elsie Road, with police cars now on both sides of the road by Maxin trying to stop traffic getting in the way/half the speeding car. Bit more than I had bargained for when I set out/want in local area! Stay careful out there folks, this place is getting scarier...
    • The stop outside the chippy was still closed earlier today, although the barriers I saw yesterday have been removed, so no need for the closure.  The stop outside the church across the road is now uncovered and open
    • You all have different and conflicting interests though. It isn't necessarily appropriate for him to communicate with all of you at the same time about the same issues.    You're giving more away with each post as to how these difficulties probably arose.
    • @CPR Dave He needs to communicate collectively with all of the beneficiaries.  That is the whole point of my original post.  Electronic communications are the best way of doing this, as I am doing now on this forum.  Apart from the gold digger who will get a six figure sum the rest of us are on four figures, and that is going down by the day. I'm offended by any suggestion that we are not behaving well.  What on earth do you mean?
