DovertheRoad
There was lots not quite right with it but it was in a handy location, never too busy and was the best "drink at the bar" bar (as opposed to pub) in Dulwich. Now kidcoffeed as Aneto move into a bigger space. Flying Pig I shall miss you. cella
Aware of the renovation work but just thought they were refurbishing. Has the FP gone then? Didn't see anything from them saying they were closing. Michael Palaeologus
Apparently owned by the same company, so didnt want to advertise.Coffee and croissant bar now. Huge let down. BrandNewGuy
Someone should tell the Flying Pig that they're still taking out a full-page ad in the Dulwich Hamlet programme ever home game offering a discount for supporters. Maybe it works with croissants too... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/181759-rip-the-flying-pig/#findComment-1217807 Share on other sites
Sue
The last reincarnation of the Flying Pig was a disaster (ETA: In my opinion).Sorry, but it just didn't deserve to succeed. We spent many happy times in there in the past on the sofa playing Scrabble, but something went very very wrong.Last time we were there, the bar had cleaning stuff just lying around in full sight. I suppose at least that meant they were cleaning it :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/181759-rip-the-flying-pig/#findComment-1217811 Share on other sites
cella
So Aneto moving into the FP space which presumably means something else in their vacated place? Michael Palaeologus
I had a coffee in Aneto today, late morning. It was quite busy for a new venture, people having brunch, teas and coffees with their families. All tables at the back were full.Menu looks good, contemporary but with a full English option at ?9.95.The place feels lighter and airier that was previously the case. There are about 6 bar taps and signage that says that there is an evening service, although I didn't see an evening menu.I will miss the Pig, but perhaps this is a better bet for a site that is close to a school, Goose Green, Peckham Rye the children's playground and sees lots of family footfall between all of those. JohnL
"We are currently working hard transforming Aneto into a place for:DAY + NIGHTServing:BREAKFAST + BRUNCHCOFFEES + COCKTAILSDINNER + DRINKS"So not just a Cafe. DulwichFox
I was never a fan of The Flying Pig. Found it lacking in Soul and never seemed that busy. I Used to use the place quite often when it was Locale. That too was never really busy. I suspect its a question of its location. Could prove to be a great Day Time summer location. NewWave
We love Aneto, they do superb soups and salads as well as breakfasts but never felt tempted by the flying pig Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/181759-rip-the-flying-pig/#findComment-1218403 Share on other sites
Seabag
Same owners? Didn?t we have this when the FP first opened, it was all a bit arms length ?same owners? as the previous place.I know the chef who opened it, he?s now back in Canada running his won place. When he left the love left with him. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/181759-rip-the-flying-pig/#findComment-1218515 Share on other sites
smn143
Personally, super excited that Aneto has expanded! Always been the best breakfasts and coffees around. And now it's bigger and better, serving alcohol and evening plates... http://www.anetocafe.com/menu/Wines are organic and well sourced, tons of vegan and veggie options... Damiano and Amandine are great people, we wish them luck with the new place and can't wait to spend more time there.Go try!! fishbiscuits
I was almost wetting myself with excitement when I first heard we were getting a craft beer and bbq joint. But the beer was just that little bit too expensive, and the bbq (which was only OK) disappeared after a few months. The space felt soulless and vaguely reminiscent of somewhere you'd eat at an airport or shopping mall. But I'm glad the Aneto guys are expanding, they seem like nice people and we go there for breakfast quite often. Are Aneto now occupying both premises, or is the old Aneto site now vacant? Michael Palaeologus
Both Locale and the Pig followed the same path - good to begin with and then went downhill.I liked the bar end of the Pig, good beer and the bar staff were nice chatty people, albeit occasionally a bit scatty. Its a difficult space to use well, that back area is cavernous and its easy to lose atmosphere. JohnL
It ended up being a quiet place where I went if I wanted a quiet drink - but that has it's uses and it wasn't a space with bad feelings - I'm not always looking to party :).The Ales I found many were too strong unless you just wanted to taste (those one/third pint things) - but they did have session beer/lager as well. Had a huge screen - ironic it's gone as the six nations starts. OutOfFocus
When it first became flying pig there was 2 good beer people. The aneto man then got rid of all the staff.Probably a bit more complicated than that....
