If the NOTW is just going to be replaced with the Sunday Sun, feels like Murdoch has got away with it... I shouldn't be surprised I suppose.

Has anyone signed the petition to stop to the BSkyB takeover, and a full public inquiry into the Murdoch empire's phone hacking activities?

If you want to, the 38 degrees web site is here - they are up to 100,000 signatures already

That's the .co.uk one, registered to 'mediaspring', who claims to be a non-trading individual. The .com one was actually assigned some years ago.

I'm pretty sure Nominet's rules allow for the challenge of any registered .co.uk domain name which clearly appertains to a going concern rather than to the registrant. So any price offered for it probably boils down to a question of how time-critical it is.

Is anyone suprised ?

NO

Is Cameron rushing to do anything ?

NO

It's a http://dellasays.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/cadfudge.jpg

Personally the best thing about this as that our media spun politicians won't go round in fear of Murdoch so much...they nevertshould have been that scared in the first place.

In reality, the patronising intelligensia view that it 'woz the Sun wot won it' as if the Murdoch empire manipulated the poor britsih public election after election has been much overstated IMO...apparently only Guardian readers have the intelligence to make political decisions not based on their Newspaper readership (ha ha ha)

In fact, the Murdoch papers were actually quite good at jumping on who ever looked like they were gonna win and then claiming they won it for them (not very convincingly last time by the way)and media spun, media consulted. media driven politicains fell for this. Hence Brown and Blair jumping on a plane at short notice to meet The Digger in Singapore in '97 and Cameron taking on the Coulson against advice.....but probably not his ginger neighbours in Oxforshire,

For News International Live by the Sword etc. - I can't see anything but declining influence.

Cameron looks a weak arse out of this and, unfortunately, increasingly like his hero Blair.

The politicians will take this as an opportunity to give the press per se a kicking in revenge for the expenses stuff no doubt

Edited 'cos even I can't allow meat instead of meet

That was particularly badly phrased, wunt it.

What I meant was, the comments below the article point out that the NOTW is an owned title, not an independent entity, so the suggestion that it could be liquidated, and its records with it, is invalid.

I find it hard to believe that any liquidator couldn't be sub-poena'd anyway, but what say the forum lawyers?

this paragraph is just weird - for someone who professes to loathe ideology, you don't half have some well-entrenched views of your own quids. Most people I know share your opinion about the Murdochs backing winners. The only people I know who give the "woz the Sun wot won it" any credence (coined by the Sun, not by patronising intelligentsia) are SOME Sun readers. You will probably find examples who believe it from any "side" but to claim it's "patronising intelligentsia" is just.... patronising. And from someone who is intelligent

I read in the Independent (admittedly) last night that "Neil Kinnock's campaign in 1987 was deystroyed by the Murdoch press"....mmmmmmmm......nothing to do with the fact he was a windbag whose intellect was exposed under pressure (that wouldn't matter now sadly) combined with a strong economy (in much of the country) and a clear conservtive manifesto - I voted Labout that year btw.

I know it was the Sun Starfer.....The use of "the sun wot won it" in my text was using the well known Sun Headline as a generic term for the belief that Murdoch's press decides on our govt.

I regularly hear refeences from the left to the 'Murdoch press deciding our elections' or similar sentiment (undercurrent The plebs are just media manipulated saps). Come on, tell me that's not true? I've seen it on here a fair few times.

It's not ideology it's just pointing out that for many left wing intllectuals when democracy doesn't go their way the electorate are just stooopid plebs manipulated by the media, nicer put of course.

The angler casts a lonely fly out over the pond; a polyethylene question mark unfurling, weightless, over the water.

These pools have long been fished out but still he returns with his rod and bait box.

One day, he knows, there will come that old sharp tug and the reel will shit out its line, squealing in fear and joy. And when it does, he will know what to do.

Well i think it is really having your fingers on the pulse, i think this thread was started before it all came crashing down, reading through it there seem to be the usual gobby suspects spouting and laughing.....then the NOTW got shut down.

Its the EDF wot won it !

Is that a proprietary blend of polyethylene and special copolymers. Built on a nylon monofilament core, with a patent-pending crystal-clear jacket which is naturally lighter than water, eliminating the need for micro-balloons or other agents to make it float.

By any chance ?

    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
    • Depends on what the Barista says doesnt it? There was no physical confrontation with the driver, OP thinks she is being targetted when she isnt. These guys work min wage under strict schedules so give them a break unless they damage your stuff
