Apparently a new vegan junk food delivery is coming to ED

They haven't put junk in their title at all, it's not mentioned anywhere in their website - that's just something Wayne put in his thread title. They're called Vegan Plates East Dulwich.


Personally as someone who's been a vegan for three decades, I loved meat before giving it up on ethical/environmental grounds and anything that's a good simulacrum of a hot dog or a burger will get me through the door!

I agree with rendel, although I have been a vegan for only 4 months now due to ethical and health reasons, I have found myself craving a burger from time to time, I miss the taste, however I am more aware of the sentient beings and the treatment of them. I'm going to order from them tonight and will give my verdict.

Please don't suggest it to them! Their food will take even longer to arrive than it already does if their kitchen has to cater for takeaways as well!

I just finished a burger with vegan bacon and cheese and I have say I'm pleasantly surprised, It tasted smokey and the texture was a unique melt in the mouth. Other vegan burgers I've had in the past have disappointed me due to being bland and cardboardy, one of my favourite burgers I discovered was by Linda McCartney but.... I didn't think I would be saying this, this burger from them has out done the Linda ones for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the Mac & cheese as it wasn't to flavoursome. The churros are to die for! So all in all, I am definitely going to be a regular customer and I think its fab!

Thanks, I won't. Have you worried about the amount of processing that goes into providing meat and dairy? The figures are easily accessible online, have a bingo. I'll give you a quick precis if you can't be bothered, per kilo beef takes 1500% more land than soya, 1000% more fossil fuel, 2000% more water and 600% more chemicals (pesticides etc).

Thanks for the review Wayne, I shall definitely be trying it out!

No, I'm not talking about resources. I don't worry too much about my intake of meat and dairy as I'm sure it's way below average for a westerner. And what I do eat is free range or organic. But I do worry about eating highly mucked about with manufactured food that spends much of it's life in a lab such as, I suspect, vegan "bacon" and vegan "cheese".

Haven't been in there for a while, but I'm pretty sure they have at least four vegan options, including yummy hot things!

You could say regular cheese is highly processed and "mucked about with", couldn't you? It's one of the earliest processed foods!

I've made vegan cheese at home and they usually have about 3-4 "natural" ingredients (carrot, potato, nutritional yeast, maybe some oil). hardly lab processed.

Any tips for the best recipes? My old man is a keen (non-vegan) cheese maker (blessed are they etc) and is always complaining that he can't find a good recipe for making stuff for me.

    • Also those of us who are currently represented by Harriet Harman (who is standing down of course) will not be able to vote for her successor (Miatta Fahnbulleh) as the change of boundaries also puts us in with Reeves, rather than Peckham. I think this is a rather clever way for the conservatives to have taken the wind out of the sales of the end of one great career and its baton passing. (Hope that makes sense).
    • I presume that was you who won the Fantasy football though, James? That's a bit of consolation! As there appears to be at least a couple of Spurs fans amongst us, can anyone advise what is the best way to get to their new stadium from ED? I'm going to see the egg chasers on Saturday. I haven't been to Tottenham in about 30 years! Then it was quite a long walk from the tube if I remember correctly. I'd like to avoid that if possible. I'm in but I need to do a bit of research I think........
    • I certainly hope she’s not standing down. She’s a great MP both locally and nationally. 
    • I had certainly heard that Helen Hayes was planning to stand down from being an MP - although I don't think I've seen that confirmed anywhere that I recall. If so, that is a shame, she was generally very competent and she knew the area well. A very good constituency MP and  had performed reasonably creditably in a minor Front Bench role. A loss to Parliamentary politics, in my view, if she is standing down.
