Andicam, you'll notice that the email only referred to knife attackers, not firearms attackers. More importantly the police were 'looking at it' not agreeing that either it worked or that the Independent's reporting was accurate.

This is because it's unfair to expect officers to protect themselves against firearms using defensive tools like beanbags or tazers that have 40%+ failure rates.

Frankly I wouldn't do the job if someone gave me a water bomb and asked me to take on a man with a pistol

Would you? Be realistic now. So why do you expect police to?

Apparently, the bullet recovered from the police radio was a police issued bullet. This criminal clearly misfired before shooting himself. In south Africa during the terrorist days, the insurrectionists used to fling themselves down the stairs all the time with their hands cuffed behind their backs. Seen this sort of thing before and it's all too familiar. Tory govt and riots go together like social upheaval and economic downturns.

Well that's cleared that up, call off the investigation, start a multi-million pound inquiry and rain compensation down on Mr Duggan's family.

I am all for an investigation but not for the misinformation often used to manage the news by the police as it allows ill informed arm chair theorist to spout abject nonsense in the name of law and "order". Deliberate emphasis on order there as the law requires that everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and the problem with proactive policing is it denies criminals their day in court. No wait, am missing something?

But we are all in the same armchair at the moment, aren't we?

Nope, was aimed more at someone else.

I've read the thread... still not sure which facts you mean, and where abouts they are clarified!

Get you facts right DJKQ, it's not been reported that Mark Duggan fired shots at the police.

No LD, nobody knows, and for some bizarre reason you're fuelling the fire of outrage. What on earth are you doing this for?

You're like the Tabloids blaming Norway's tragedy on Al Qaeda.

Nobody knows for now, and I have little doubt we'll find out.

Now for heaven's sake stop egging on people in hatred and conflict. It's irresponsible.

He well could have been wrestling with the officer and the officer's gun went off, the point is I don't know, you don't know.

We can create all kind of permutations of scenarios.

My problem is this need to blame the police which is a little obsessive.

Wait for the IPCC to report, then we will all know.

Although I am sure if it does not fit your view, it will have been a whitewash of some kind.

As Santerme said LD, I don't know. Neither do you.

What I know without any doubt is that attacking the police with ridulous assertions of executions is generating a justification for teenagers in north London to ransack their community and burn people's houses.

Why you want that to happen baffles me.
