Ahhhh - I remember arriving in this country in the 80s, getting a "middle class" job despite not being middle class. I had no idea what "class" was - I was also a staunch RoI and Arsenal supporter

I didn't have many friends

But I did have a lot of English "geezers" telling me how us Irish would be humiliated at 88, and 92 tournaments. I also remember being jeered at in a cathedral city in England as English fans tore apart an Irish stadium because the poor diddums were losing to Ireland

Loooong time since England beat RoI. I have never overcome my dislike of English "geezers". Whatever rung of the ladder I find myself

Was this in 2001 when the 'friendly' International was abandoned? As I remember watching the trouble on TV and it looked like to me the Irish were throwing missiles down at the English yobs from the upper tier.

No the english were on the upper tier matt throwing down on the irish. Naive positioning of the away fans by the irish organisers gave the english hooligans a perfect location for their assault..

Dear me, the spuds mafia have been getting together to think up names to call me, how long did it take you to think up this one? I can think of lots of names for spuds fans but you're beneath contempt and beneath us as you have been for many, many , many , many , many , many years.

Lazy saracastic comparison to a comic great? If you're talking about youself, you cleary hold your work here to be of great worth when in fact a child attending nursery could do better. Sarcastic and lazy enough for you spuds boy?

Little do you know of Irish fans then Matthew and their history. Regarding the fact that the English fans were in an upper tier at that match, if my memory serves me correctly, it was because it was the only part of the ground where they could be escorted in and out of the ground without having to mingle with the locals. David Kelly scored the goal I think that gave them the excuse to throw seats onto the crowd below.

I remember watching that game and the English "fans" disgraced themselves by bombarding the fans below with missiles of various sizes. It's no surprise to me that English fans are treated with disdain when they travel abroad. Over the past few decades they have hardly gone out of their way to endear themslves to the people of nations hosting European and World Cup competitions.

I suppose you are right Atila...I shouldn't have laughed (and...erm... pointed)...sorry Jah. I would not like to be banned.

*giggles sheepishly*

But Jah, seeing as you are in read-only mode at present...there you go...
