I always thought that could also be levelled at Slyvan Wiltord in his pomp. :)

and yet, not that surprising is it? You got the impression the powers at Newcastle were just waiting for the right moment and yesterday's poor display was reason enough

Hard to see what Hughton has done wrong - I can't see anyone else getting them promoted and sitting where they are in the Premiership. I suspect quite a few people who wished them well will now be not-a-little chuffed if they go down again

You'd think that they'd have learnt their lesson, the guy has done them proud and that's how they repay him. There should be some kind of safeguard for guys like him that have done a decent job. I guess we supporters should be immune to this sort of behaviour by now but it leaves avery bad taste in the mouth. I hope he gets a job elsewhere and comes back to haunt the ungrateful buggers.
5-0 home win over Villa, 5-1 over local rivals Sunderland, 1-0 win at the Emirates, 1-1 against the Champions, just been promoted, half way in the table. This was nothing to do with Chris Hughton's qualities as a Manager this was all you need to know about Mike Ashley.
That shows a distinct lack of ambition from the directors at Newcastle United. Alan Pardew hasn't exactly covered himself in glory when it comes to managing football clubs. How is he any better than Chris Hughton? I predict a short tenancy. He'll be sacked within ten months.

I was being generous. He really is crap isn't he.

This from the Mirror's Oliver Holt -

STUPIDITY in a football club owner should never be a surprise but Mike Ashley's sacking of Chris Hughton has raised the imbecility bar to new heights.

Let's get this straight: Hughton gets the club promoted last season despite little investment from the owner; somehow he manages to mould a combustible headstrong set of players into a formidable unit again; he organises them into a side that exceeds expectations in the Premier League this season; thrashes Sunderland; wins away at Arsenal and gets the best out of Andy Carroll to the point where he is drafted into the full England side.

And for this Hughton gets the bullet. Madness. No other word for it.

If it is to be believed, Martin Jol turned down the Toon job because of his relationship with Chris Hughton. It thats true, Jol has gone up hugely in my estimation. I was always thought he'd been shat on by Spurs, and for him to maitain his dignity then, and act in a decent manner over this, is the mark of a decent fella in a dirty business.

Make that top of the league and through to next stage of Champions League!

    • I’ve tried to find details of surgeries being held before but not found any. The section of the Southwark website that details councillors’ surgeries says that: Your locally elected Councillors will be holding a roving surgery programme in the Dulwich Hill area to enable residents to raise any local issues. Residents will be notified by letter in advance of the date, time and specific streets/roads where the surgery will take place.  Surgeries are not held in August, on Bank Holidays, Easter or in Christmas Week.  Dulwich Hill Ward Councillors I’ve never seen any notification of surgeries being held, including on the DH councillors’ social media accounts. I don’t know if any other residents of Dulwich Hill have? Neighbouring wards all seem to have times and places posted for surgeries.
    • I wouldn't feel too bad about that. It's one of the few degree areas that you can do a BA or a BSc in, so it's a fairly wide-ranging and complex subject. Certainly Truss, Kwasi and Reeves seem to struggle with it.
    • I can't access the article - what's the gist?  I took the markets getting jittery when she was crying at PMQs to be a sign that they trusted her. But maybe it was because they were simply worried about any form of instability.  The NIC hikes have stymied the economy, which we could all see a mile off. Will a wealth tax improve things? Does anyone here think the trickle down has any impact and that chasing out the super rich will help things? Or are we just seeing off the biggest contributors to the economy? And has the Kwasi approach ever worked anywhere else?  Economics is not my strong point at all, I'd love to know others' opinions, but it seems to be she has few options, especially as the party is so divided.
    • does either of them have a surgery? probably not over summer, but I thought they had to give the opportunity for their constituents to meet them.
