If Jamie Redknapp, Phil Thompson, Chris Kamara, Mark Lawrenson, Garth Crooks, Sam Allardyce, Teddy Sherringham, Les Ferdinand, Ian Dowie, to name but a few can can have a go at it, then I don't see why he can't.

Anyway on to more serious subjects. I see Rafael has been charged by the FA and quite right to. But what about Rooney?? Surely his foul mouthed in your face rant at the ref also should be looked at. In my view that could have easily been deemed a red. Apparently Fergie was speechless over the red for Rafael. Oh yeah? The Red for Gerrard didn't stop him putting his tuppence worth in did it. Good old Fergie.

Taken from the BBC website;

French left-back Patrice Evra thinks the whole nation was against unbeaten league leaders Manchester United as they fought out a goalless draw with Spurs on Sunday. "All the country was against Manchester United," he said. "Everybody wanted us to lose."

I wonder why that is? Perhaps they should adopt the Millwall mantra, "no one likes us, we don't care". Poor sensitive soul. Bless.

I'm hoping for a rousing chorus of "you don't know what you're doing" aimed at the directors this weekend. I also think no-one would blame Avram Grant for just walking out leaving them looking really stupid.

I've always said that I'm not sure if Grant was the right man for the job but I'm firmly on his side now.

In other news I heard on the radio Darren Bent and ?24 million in the same sentence, obviously I was hallucinating.

I'd heard ?18m, which still seems a lot.

That said, I read yesterday that he's only behind Drogba & Rooney for league goals in the last 5 years or something like that. Even though the fans never took to him at Spurs, he was still their top scorer for at least one season.

No unfortunately its true. Its like a waking nightmare isn't it? Makes you wonder what what players like Scott Parker must be worth to West Ham.

35 goals in 80 games in La Liga and 49 goals in 121 games in total.

Plus he won:

La Liga x 2

Copa del Rey

Supacopa de Espana

Champions League

UEFA Super Cup

World Club Cup

Well that's told me hasn't it. Thanks for putting me in my place David. He's currently without a club and back training at Arsenal. I suspect he'll be off to the States for a last payday and good luck to him. He was a top player who's only real glitch was the handballing that got France qualified for the last World Cup.

And that doesn't include Prem title x 2, FA cup Winner 3 time(I think), part of the unbeaten team, World Cup winner, Eurorpean Champions with France. Overall a poor return for a players career eh? If Bent came to within 25%, you'd say he was a brilliant player.

But I say again, if he's worth 24m, what are the likes of Barcas Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, the Arsenals Nasri, Cesc, RVP, Citehs Tevez, Silva, Johnson, Liverpools Torres, Spurs Bale worth in comparision to Bent?? I'd like to know what medication the bloke who valued him is on.

And eveyone will run around screaming that there are too many foriegn players in our leagues. This is one of the reasons why.

LOL - A couple of years ago I told some bloke called Atila that Henry had not been a success at Barca...boy did that go down well. The abuse only lasted a couple of pages. That guy, what was he like...

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
