I've never understood why agents are used by players. Most people with a modicum of intelligence should be able to conduct negotiations for themselves without paying these leeches sack loads of money, and saving the clubs involved unecessary expense.

It has been known for some of these bods, admittedly not all are the sharpest chisels in the tool box, to negotiate deals for themselves, so its not beyond the realms of possibility. Unlikely I grant you but not impossible.

Clubs use (and pay) agents to persuade players to consider joining them. Then the agent puts some of the money into a brown paper envelope and slips it gently into bagpuss' pocket!
