Pretty sure VP knew it was offside by way he swiped ball. Not sure it made much difference as he'd been starved of possession. If Barcelona had not been so profligate in front of goal could have been another 4 goals. The 700+ passes versus 199 for Arsenal says it was one sided and it was.

And here is how to put them out of Europe. :)

..and also probably only English side to remain unbeaten (in 4 visits)

Better side won. RVP sending off farcical. One second between whistle being blown and RVP shooting. Not sure the tatic of sitting off and inviting the opposition on to you was the right way to go. Abidal had his hands round RVPs throat and didn't get so much as a yellow card, so the post the nonsense about the CMPL being more severly punished by refs than in the prem has proven not to be the case. Alves also managed a nasty little scissor tackle on Cesc proving that they can mix the beautiful with the beast. They will be the team to beat in this competition.

Agree reffing was inconsistent and favoured the home side, sending off was ridiculous and effectively decided the tie as did a dubious penalty. But Arsenal got it wrong on the night and didn't do enough to merit going through.

I understand if Arsenal fans feel aggrieved with the way things went, but as EC says, better team went through.

Lets just say he's not flavour of the month.

RVP sending off was ridiculous, even if he knew he was offside he wasn't wasting time, the Fabregas back heel was criminal though. Only seen 5 min highlights but reports suggest Aresnal tried to play them at their own game. For Arsenal or any side surely you need to try something different to beat them like Mourinho did last year? Stat of the day is that since OPTTA started doing the Champions Leagues stats over 10 years ago Arsenal are the first side ever to have no shots in a match.

Great win for Palace last night with an incredible back heel into the bottom corner - would Messi be proud of it, no - the player misckicked, spun round to look for the ball and inadvertently it hit his heel and trickled into the corner.:)) - it's great when luck is with you for once. Bellamy was awful by the way.

Good luck to Spurs tonight, always seems to be a great atmosphere at WHL for evening matches.

Thanks Murphy. There IS an amazing atmosphere at WHL evening matches especially in European games. Unfortunately I couldn't get a ticket for tonight so probably watching in the pub with a few mates.

Very happy for you Palace fans. A great result. All my family on my parents side were/are Palace supporters. I bucked the trend but have a little soft spot for them for obvious reasons.

The problem with RVP is he'd almost certainly have shifted ball onto his left foot with the space he was in and drilled a more convincing shot at goal if he had any suspicion that he'd not been pulled up for offside. As it was he smashed the ball away in frustration. Not worthy of a yellow card but RVP should have not tested the Ref again after his earlier skirmish following the Wilshire injury.

    • I'm guessing that most people with pets would not bring either the pets or fireworks into their day to day conversations, to complain or otherwise. Are you suggesting that only "timid" pets are scared by fireworks? What evidence do you have for that, exactly?  Or are you equating being scared of fireworks with being "timid"? And what about the foxes and other wildlife? Is it ok for them to be scared? Firework noise is not a noise that "comes with normal city living" ! What a very strange thing to say! Are you one of the people who have been constantly letting off fireworks recently? I'm assuming you don't have any pets yourself, or you wouldn't have these opinions, but if you do have pets, please share how they react when they hear loud bangs. Unless they are goldfish, in which case you probably wouldn't be able to tell.
    • Well, I know a lot of people in London with pets and I've never heard any of them complain about fireworks.  Maybe what's not ok is keeping timid animals in a metropolis when they are scared of the noises that come with normal city living.
