"My research (albeit late at night after some wine) suggests it IS a crime to act on racism through actions or words"

What JT was alleged to have said might be caught by the racially aggravated version of s.5 Public Order Act offence:

?a person is guilty of an offence if he ? uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour ? within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.?

but would be difficult to prove the second element.

For me it's simple. If Terry said what the papers are saying he said (and I believe it was caught on camera too) then he should be banned for a long enough time to send a clear message that racist abuse is never acceptable. Fans who engage in such behaviour often recieve lifetime bans. I don't see why players can't be treated in the same fashion.

I was at the Emirates last night to see Arsenal beat Bolton. Fab night, fab crowd and not a single instance of malicious behaviour from any of the players on show. That's the spirit I want to see...not the foul rants of a spoilt brat like John Terry et al.

Yet another enlightened view from a footballing sage. If one were to take your view to its logical conclusion, i.e. teams should "toughen up" in order to win tropies, then 95% of clubs in the Prem and the 3 leagues below that, would have to do likewise. I eagerly await more of your wisdom on all footballing matters.

Yes Indeed, they are the Premier Leagues answer to the Famous Brazil National side of the early 70's. A real credit to sporting ideals and sporting beauty.

Not as ironic as you're trying to be clearly.

Does my previous post not make it clear that I am a dyed in the wool Stoke fan? They are oft derided but not given enough credit for the grace and beauty they bring to the Premiership, which is a scandal. They are good, honest players that most teams would give their eye teeth to sign. Take Rory Delap for example. Who wouldn't want him in their side?

    • On the nostalgia side, I don't think anything can replace the clatter of the metal crates and the whirr of the milk float making its short hops. • I highly recommend anyone wanting to learn manual driving to use Nicholas Driving academy, great instructor who makes things easy to learn while being calm and fun reducing stress. Highly recommend!
    • I view this as a bit of unnecessary political point scoring. I mean, it's not as if she has more important things on her mind. She should get a rap on the knuckles but resignation? I don't think so. Quite how the Tories have the temerity to point fingers after the shambles and outright corruption that took place over Covid, I really don't know.
    • I did check that Tesco were the applicants on at least one of the 7 May forms.  I would be interested to know what Monica has seen.  Possibly some other formal annnouncement somewhere, or the LL traders' grapevine (which I'd guess is generally reliable)?  I wondered if it might have been a licensing matter, but don't see any mention in the licensing sub-committee's 16 October meeting agenda. In the meantime, I'm not even assuming that Tesco are taking the lease.
