Fair enough, so explain why. I'm not that up on this story, but from what I've read and heard Cole didn't say anything to dispute Ferdinand's account other than that he didn't hear it.

As well you know Hug, Rio's abuse of Cole was in response to action taken by Cole in defending Terry. It was this action that Anton Ferdinand finds difficult to forgive and hence no handshake. Nothing to do with Rio's twittering.

It was Rio's twittering that I did not want to get into as it is firstly unsavoury and secondly an area that only those who suffer racism can properly understand imo.

All those little mascot's parents are shelling out at least that amount. Each of my sons has been a mascot once (one for Crystal Palace and one for Spurs) and we got no change out of about ?400. But saying that, both my boys play club and school football and I think the pre match handshake is supposed to remind them to be sporting on the pitch.

Its's a shame that footballers can't demonstrate that. Ferdinand not shaking Cole's hand seemed particularly juvenile IMO.

What a sensible chap.

Otta. You are right.

Cole said on the day of the match at Loftus Road, he saw Ferdinand make a fist gesture to imply sex and could see him saying something about 'Bridgey' or 'black'. 'I can't make out - him either saying Bridgey (Cole made the fist gesture) or black.' He said he thought QPR centre-half Ferdinand's taunts were 'not necessary' and did not shake his hand after the game. He did not hear Terry say anything in reply to the goading, the court heard. Later in the game, Terry told Cole he thought Ferdinand had accused him of using a racist obscenity. After the match, Cole was present when Terry asked Ferdinand what had happened. 'I think John said "Did you think I called you a black c***, did you think I was being racist?" Then I said "Did you think John was being racist?" Anton said 'No, no'." The two players then shook hands and went their separate ways.

Ferdinand said that because he wasn't looking at Terry or within earshot when Terry yelled his racist abuse so was unaware of it right after the match (he only learned of it later when he saw the footage).

The abuse was clearly caught on camera and absolutely did not contain the words/phrase 'did you think I was calling you' or 'I never called you' but rather straight forward racist abuse.

It should see him banned REGARDLESS of the 'context' Terry lied about in court (a lie which the Judge admitted he suspected but could not prove) as the FA's position is that the 'racially abusive languge' is NEVER excusable even if Terry was 'quoting' or 'questioning' what Ferdinand may or may not have thought or heard.

I don't think anyone would disagree with that maxxi.

The point was however whether Cole actively supported Terry in court or just went so far as to say he did not hear it. If it was the latter does he deserve to be held accountable in some way by the Ferdinad brothers.

Yes I see that - I always thought that Ferdinand's problem was that;

First he did not believe Cole had not heard the abuse.

Second that - if Cole really didn't see/hear it - he supposed Cole having seen the evidence (footage) later might have refused to testify for Terry or been expected to support his (Ferdinand's) case when it became obvious Terry was going to try and wriggle out of it using an argument that could not be definitively disproved.

Instead he actively backed Terry's version when he said;

"while racism should never be tolerated, repeating what you thought someone said was "completely different".

[how does he know that's what happened if, as he claims, he didn't hear it?]

"If I repeated something that I thought you said, that's totally different than if someone just says something,"

[same problem - backs Terry's 'lie' despite claiming never to have heard it]

Also let's not forget Cole said Terry was "inspirational" and that the case should never have been brought to court.

This is why Terry needs to be charged by the FA. Otherwise it's a open invitation for anyone to openly abuse someone under this premise...

Anyhow, getting back to the REAL matter in hand, Everton v Newcastle great game yesterday evening, but provided yet more proof, if any were needed, that goal line technology is a must. Great advert for the English game overall though.

ON the ridiculous enforced handshake thing, the sooner this empty farcical ritual is kicked in to touch the better.

    • It’s 3 AM - Anyone know when this horrendous noise is going to stop?! We’re on the Sainsbury’s Local end of Landells and am quite frankly sympathising with all of you nearer Peckham Rye. My ears are ringing! How is this ok?!  Edit: According to the website it should have finished by 22:30. What is going on and how is this acceptable (and not more people are complaining about the crippling sound levels we’re being subjected to?) - shocking..
    • https://chng.it/YXCH5XXVMY We live near and it’s absolute hell. The noise of the people coming and going from Peckham is the worse. They are so loud and obnoxious. This is my 5th year of this nonsense. People vomiting in my front garden, urinating in my neighbour’s gardens, throwing food into my garden. Screaming waking up my children while waiting for their Ubers. The people that organise this festival are 100% obnoxious. They told us there would be security along our road (there wasn’t). I asked them to put up my family in a hotel but they wouldn’t. It’s actually a human rights infraction for all of us this badly affected. Over the years I have spent so much money trying to be away this weekend but none of us should have to. The data also shows that most people coming are not local residents - so of 3000 tickets sold, hardly any to residents; it’s easy to argue that it disadvantages us residents way more than any conceivable benefit. My elderly neighbours are besides themselves. Every year the setup and striking of the festival blocks off the park during half term, plus the antisocial behaviour and loud noises mean actual children that live here are prevented from using the park and playgrounds. The police initially rejected the license last year… then suddenly changed their mind with no apparent reason… seems legit. Also the GALA team lie and make false statements in their advertising about consulting with us (they don’t they just tell us what is going to happen then are extremely obstinate and rude). My neighbour runs Friends of Peckham Rye and has been totally distressed by all the damage done to recent planting initiatives funded by the local community. GALA do not repair this, GALA pay off Southwark and then Southwark refuse to confirm what they are paid, or how much (if anything) is spent to repair the park.   This needs to be stopped once and for all!!   Petition asking Southwark to stop providing the license to GALA once and for all.    I mean I am sure they will listen to us just like they did about the LTNs…   https://chng.it/YXCH5XXVMY
