Strawbs
Came home from work yesterday to having been robbed.. I intially came home and my keys wouldnt work in the front door so I went to a friend's til my partner came home.. Long story short the back door wise wide open with a big hole in it as they have broken in through the back door, pulled out the dog door and smashed the door with a big enough hole for someone small to climb inside and get the back door key that was on the microwave - the key was still in the lock on the outside!. Looks like they were quickly in and out, ipads, jewellery, watches and money stolen, bedroom completely ransacked.. They also broke the front door lock so that our keys wouldnt work (at 7 months pregnant I had to climb in through the front window!!).. My poor dog was home the whole time ( a little king charles so not a guard dog and was fine but crying and a bit stressed when we finally got in)Anyways police were called they came and I now have the fingerprinters at my place as I type this.. He said based on the size of the fingerprints that are being found it looks like two people - an older and a younger person (he said one of the fingerprints looks like the size of circa a 12 year old)..Just to make you all aware..xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19054-break-in-oakhurst-grove-15811/ Share on other sites
SteveUK1978
Horrific experience - sorry you had to go through that at any time, let alone when pregnant. How did they get into the back garden? Must have jumped a wall or fence in broad daylight....hopefully someone would have seen something and they can be caught. Strawbs
Hi SteveYep either over the front gate or the back fence not sure which.. Police have just left and he has advised to chubb lock doors even when sleeping as there are circa 3 a week in ED at the moment where they can slip the lock with a piece of bottle plastic in literally 10 seconds, he attended one last night where the break in happened whilst the people were sleeping.. I am just thanking the heavens it happened whilst we were at work.. karter
Sorry to hear this Strawbs, happened to us a few weeks ago. Upgrade your security if you can and the police or wardens should give you the selectDNA kit to mark your property and put tamper proof stickers on valuables and on windows. It is truely sickening. Loz
Sorry to hear this, but for everyone else...ALWAYS CHUBB LOCK DOORS - EVEN WHEN YOU ARE ASLEEPApart from the safety aspect, your insurance may not pay out of you don't. It's in the fine print of mine. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19054-break-in-oakhurst-grove-15811/#findComment-466290 Share on other sites
Marlene
We were done some months ago through the back door. Again footprints of a young person on our carpet. Bedroom completely ransacked, despite an alarm and double glazing. Police came but never caught thieves or recovered the stolen goods.I have seen a petition on the epetitions regarding domestic burglary punishment. After what we went through, I did not have any hesitation in signing it. Nero
Two chubb locks are much better than one. I use them even when in the front room after 1030 or so. The police put through flyers around Goodrich School last weekend, urging people to be vigilant and to lock up doors and windows when asleep/out of the house. Strawbs
Thanks all.. Clean up is finally done and I'm consoling myself with a lovely piece of lemon cake.. We will definitely be locking the chubb from now on, replacing back door with no dog flap and upgrading locks on windows upon advice from policeman.. Once bitten and all that..Xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19054-break-in-oakhurst-grove-15811/#findComment-466321 Share on other sites

Frankito
Sorry to hear of your bad news, we were broken into two montgs ago whilst at home. Luckily they were after the car and didn't stick around for long, due mainly to our big angry dog. I hope you find peace at home, I didn't sleep well for a few nights but I got over it.Clove, ADT are rather good, go for it. If anything else it will give you peace of mind. srisky
I don't mean to frighten you but also be super careful in the weeks after replacing all your stolen goods. I know of a few incidents when the burgalers return to the same homes to steal all the newly replaced belongings. creeder
How horrid for you! We live on oakhurst and had a break in a couple of years ago, credit card to the front door! We replaced the lock and double lock the door every time. It made me feel sick and I was very nervy but time is a good healer, as is a good bottle of vino. Please pm if you need anything, I have a one year old and am often around. It includes motion sensors as well as sesnors that are activated when particular doors are opened and the alarm sounds and has to be turned off with the passcode...It's a monitored system. Had it for years. Went off once though when a spider crawled over the sensor... jimbo1964
We have an ADT system too. It does give peace of mind. It got set off by a cat once and is very disorientating. If I was a burglar I'd clear off quick. Also you get a call straight away and so do the police. Also we have Era locks on the front door which aren't cardable. So I'd recommend those too for night time security.
