bargee99
The Half Moon has won the best pub in London award at the National Pub & Bar Awards 2018. Quite a change from when it was slated on the forum not so long ago! A college estate pub the best in London. Well well.Read more: https://metro.co.uk/2018/05/25/local-named-one-britains-best-pubs-7576908/?ito=cbshare Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/ Share on other sites
Sue
Who votes for these awards? With the Time Out awards, it's the general public. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/#findComment-1249252 Share on other sites
Louisa
It?s ok, but to be honest, it?s still just another fullers pub. Nothing unexpected or out of the ordinary. Louisa. JohnL
The fittings are well done (IMHO)But for some reason it's not a pub I go to regularly - more likely to pop into the Commercial or Florence Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/#findComment-1249292 Share on other sites

DulwichFox
Despite Pubs closing every day, there are over 7,000 pubs in London. Now, I have not been to all of them and I doubt that anyone else has. But I think it would not take me too long to find a better Pub. Not been to the Half Moon since it's re-opening, or the Dog for that matter. Probably get round to it at sometime. I mainly go to The Pub to meet people I know. It is much nicer than it was before, in my opinion. It may well deserve its award. I just want to know who voted, and what the criteria were. Fullers is a hell of a lot better ale than Youngs, in my opinion. I haven't eaten at the Half Moon, though the restaurant part looks lovely, but the food could hardly be worse than you get in Youngs' pubs (or at the Dog) :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/#findComment-1250489 Share on other sites
malumbu
Blythe Hill Tavern won SE London Pub of the year, again. The Ivy has also won in the past.http://sel.camra.org.uk/Despite some issues with 'craft ale' I occasionally drink in the Canopy at HH. Refurbed aint my cup of tea. The Alleyn's Head, another M&B place like the Dog, seems to do it better. Mick Mac
But camra is surely focussed on real ale offerings as a major factor in their decision....? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/#findComment-1250504 Share on other sites
Robert Poste's Child
I've been in a couple of times and thought it's better than the relaunched Dog.Have they reinstated the infamous banned list, does anyone know? It's not London's best pub and frankly isn't even the best in the area... I did see One Armed Keith at the bus stop by the old post office last week... edcam
This would be an almost impossible category to judge, probably more so than restaurants. Pubs mean different things to different people. Atmosphere/clientele/garden/children/no children/food/good food/pub food/craft ale/wine selection/tv screens/no tv screens, then list goes on. Horse for courses etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/#findComment-1250537 Share on other sites
BrandNewGuy
But the 'Best pub' awards are not run by CAMRA. Both the Blythe Hill Tavern and the Ivy House deserve their CAMRA awards as they're excellent real ale pubs. By contrast, the 'Best pub' awards are run by the "National Pub & Bar Awards", an industry organisation that includes American Budweiser among its sponsors. malumbu
A good ten years ago three of my faves were shortlisted for the Time Out best pub award. The Seven Stars close to the Royal Court of Justice, the Royal Oak at Borough and the Greenwich Union. The first is very much changed and I've long since fallen out of love with the Meantime Brewery. Royal Oak is still ace.Things don't stand still. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/192905-londons-best-pub/#findComment-1250656 Share on other sites

malumbu
I fell out with Roxy in the 7 stars which at the same time was expanding and losing some of its charm. Jules-and-Boo
Does the Half Moon have live music?I'm a bit worried about telling everyone about the real best pub in London in case it loses it's specialness (which is mainly because it's such a secret and everyone who goes is authentic).
