Marmora Man
I like my Kindle - but don't like being restricted to the Amazon website / bookshop. I haven't been able to sort out how to download books from elsewhere - either directly to the KIndle or via my PC and then transferred to Kindle. Can anyone point me at a simple "how to do it" guide?Cheers Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19712-my-kindle/ Share on other sites
zephyr
Isn't the point of the Kindle that it is exclusively for Amazon books being that it is an 'Amazon Kindle'. That said the wikipedia article mentions a free converter for an international standard (EPUB) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19712-my-kindle/#findComment-477206 Share on other sites

Bellenden Belle
Are you hoping to download books out of copyright Marmora Man? Or are we talking pirate copies here? Just out of interest. Marmora Man
It's Gutenburg and other out of copyright, or paid for books. For example, was intrigued to learn that "Cool Hand Luke" a favourite film is based on a novel. Amazon doesn't publish the novel but other e-book providers do. How can I buy and transfer to my Kindle?? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19712-my-kindle/#findComment-477254 Share on other sites

aquarius moon
You have to set up an Amazon account first, then you can register the kindle to this account & download books fromAmazon onto the kindle, either from your computer or direct from the kindle itself. Otta
Just create a new email account for her, and a new Amazon account in her name. Use your credit card to pay for whatever, then give her the log in details. She can change it to her own card details later. It doesn't atter if you pay for things with a card that is in a different name to the Amazon account. We have a sort of joint credit card in my wife's name, and I've used it on my amazon account with no problems. Siduhe
You don't need to email them to the Kindle - just connect the kindle to your PC via the usb connector - the Kindle will show up as a drive (assuming you run Windows). Drag and drop the books to the "documents" folder and reboot your kindle (you may need to go into Home/Menu/Restart on the Kindle to do this). You need to be sure the files are the correct format and not DRM'd (if you've got them from Gutenberg, should be fine). There is also a detailed guide on the Amazon site: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200493090#usb Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19712-my-kindle/#findComment-477310 Share on other sites
