Well I felt about as useful as a chocolate teapot today, but thank you Re-re for working your magic, I can feel the benefit aleady!

Laddy Muck how are you?? I hope you got home ok and are resting...or getting medical attention somewhere...?

I like chocolate tea-pots Binary. Hope you recover speedily.

Just got in from Kings' A & E. Suspected fractured (or even broken coccyx), as well as whiplash and possible concussion. So no football or other sports for a while, I'm afraid. Thanks for getting my brother and walking me to his van Re-re, he drove me to Kings and stayed with me the whole time and we have just returned. I've been spoilt rotten with maltersers and toblerones - so silver lining and all of that. Have a ton of drugs to take; they wanted to keep me in overnight and put me on liquid morphine but buggar that! So I have the option to go and receive the morphine tomorrow instead. I think I'll be OK with the standard drugs - we'll see.

I hope I didn't spoil the game too much and that you still had fun. Am going to miss playing with you guys

Im up for the football. I have running from 10am - 11am but will see you all at 11am outside the cafe - yep I know it, (they are taking part in DMFD!).

I would love to play wed night but have something on for the next 10 weeks on wednesday.

Did someone mention combat training, id like to do some of that - i think Ive still got pads and gloves as well, if anyone is interested in some pad work?

Tom

Oh Jill, LM and Tom (not Micklewright) collided and LM hit the floor. All I know is it looked painful. I didn't have anything like as dramatic an injury, a combination of nephews + trampoline seems to have given me back grief...rather pathetic really. Still, hope to be there Saturday fingers crossed.

LM, I've never injured it myself but I've heard that coccyx fractures are extremely painful! Cushions all round :(

I'd say go for the morphine, even if you don't use it, would they let you take it home - I bet you could get a tenner for it on the highstreet haha :D

Oh and purely by cioincidence I came across this and thought it might cheer you up: Rimming - an Introduction

Since you are out of action for a while you could scrub up on your glass rimming technique??

I hope you get better soon xxx

Great to meet you Tom and the other new guys!

I'm sooooo tired after today's game, but it was worth the effort to beat our new rivals 3 - 2! Turns out we're a force to be reckoned with ;)

Remember kick off is at 7.30 on Wednesday not 7. See those of you playing then :)

LM - hope you're back with us soon, you were missed!

was a great game today....very competitive and we pulled out all the stops to win :) Great team we are!

Marie, yes, you were truly missed. How are you? How are you coping with the pain etc? Is it getting better?

Hope to see you again very soon as it is too quiet without you xxx

I missed you guys too! Felt quite sad at 11.00 o'clock today. But glad you had such a great time on such a beautiful of days.

I am getting better. The really vile concussion symptoms of passing out/vomiting have completely gone away and I am eating like a gannet once more. Tony brought back some very expensive chocolate from Paris - which helps - of course! He's also done the weekly shop and he's out getting fish and chips as I type. Friends/neighbours are being quite amazing/supportive too, with emails, calls, visits and offers of all of kind including cooking/cleaning. I am incredibly lucky.

As for the fractured coccyx - fukk me! I have NEVER, EVER known such pain! Thank heavens for the latest drugs! It's going to be a while before I can play again (just getting dressed is a frustrating ordeal at present), but hey - I can finally catch up on all those programmes I have been taping for years, read those books friends have lent me and go out for (more) coffee and cake. Which reminds me...I need to get ready for a party LOL!

Thanks for all your nice messages; on here, via PM and on Facebook. See you all soon - for sure, lovely people.(tu)

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
