It is a current "in joke" amongst some forum users whenever there is a thread asking what is going on with the police cars down my road.

Quote

I was going past in a car at about 3.10pm and saw a man lying on the ground and there were no police or ambulances there so it must have literally just happened. I thought perhaps he had collapsed but there were people looking after him so I didn't stop. Up the road there were around 100 people just outside/inside the cemetery looking as if they were about to attend a funeral. I'm guessing the two were linked somehow?

You really should make contact with the police because you may have seen something that is important, and you might not even realise.

Or helicopters.

In response to an earlier comment: do you honestly think that youth spending cuts make a shred of difference to young people who carry guns? Surely there's many deeper and far more complicated social and cultural factors that have attributed to this gun culture we're now seeing?? Seems so easy and pretty harsh just to point the political finger.

Anyway, just to clear up a common misconception, Trident attend and investigate all shootings in London and not just those within the black community.

This is from the Met's own website on Trident

http://www.met.police.uk/scd/specialist_units/trident_trafalgar.htm

What we do

SCD8 Trident Terms of Reference

* MURDER - Trident investigates all murders by shooting involving a lethal barrelled weapon or a weapon that has been converted to be such a lethal barrelled weapon, where both the victim(s) and suspect(s) are from black communities.

* SHOOTINGS - (i) Trident investigates all non-fatal shootings or discharges involving a lethal barrelled weapon or a weapon that has been converted to be such a lethal barrelled weapon, and (ii) Any threat to police officers and other police staff, for example PCSOs, where a firearm is produced but not discharged.

* PRO-ACTIVE OPERATOINS - Trident targets those who possess, supply, convert, reactivate and manufacture illegal firearms and those who seek to use illegal firearms to prevent shootings occurring.

From this it would appear that Trident does look at all shootings, but also specifically all black-on-black (suspected) shooting murders.

Elsewhere the link quotes

Trident Operational Command Unit (OCU) is the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) response to gun related activity occurring within London?s communities, but at this time only gun related murders within the black community. The levels of violence associated with this type of criminality are extreme, with the use of firearms becoming more prevalent

At least no one is calling for the reinstatement of capital punishment here.

Well said! There are a few people on this forum that are quick to mention Trident (JCTG)! Let?s not forget that there are families out there that are devastated with yesterday events, have a bit of respect!!

Solutions?

Maybe more undercover cops to get into the gangs.

More effort on cracking gun running etc - can anything be done to make a gun rather harder and pricier to acquire than a night out?

More effort on intel to understand the dynamics of the gang market.

More funding of effective small-scale charities who work well to get kids out of gangs.

Something dramatic - probably liberalisation - on drugs to reduce the superprofits that trade currently generates.

Decent immigration control and effective removal. That won't affect the kids in the gangs, I should guess, but might affect some of the people controlling the gangs.

Tough and effective headmasters who can break gang cultures in their schools - although some gang members will respond by leaving school

Tough and effective headmasters

Are you suggesting that this is due to female head teachers? You sound just like my late father!

oh please. Headteachers if you prefer the PC lingo. Of course you can have tough and effective female heads of schools.

Caused directly by in the sense of if the people involved hadn't immigrated the shootings wouldn't have taken place?

No of course not.

But linked in the sense that the gangs they are likely to be involved with will themselves be involved on lots of levels with illegal immigration?

Quite likely.

You are a man/woman after my own heart. Exactly what I would have chosen for the nasty crooks who have burgled me, attempted to steal my car (twice) and stolen from my car whilst creating a diversion. They all deserve each other.

    • As said, why are you not eating humble pie for a non-story? I expect that scores of landlords are unaware or made mistakes in this territory.  And this is not just the Chancellor but a married couple.  It feels like you and others are taking joy in demonising her. The only question would be is the house suitable for renting out?  I expect it is, and if not that is up to Southwark to take action rather than keyboard warriors.  The only surprises are the expense of licensing - surely time for a thread on "is licensing a money maker for local authorities?".  I'm being facetious.  And that the cost of rental, which feels fairly reasonable based on this area. By all means go after rogue landlords.  Be my guest.  I was horrified to see some of the properties rented in London and beyond by family members.  Not all bad. Oh and another question.  Haven't I got better things to do than comment on this 'no story here' thread?  😁
