Hello all:)

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place, but a friend directed me here. Be nice:-$

Several months ago what I and many others from my community regard as an anti-semitic thread was posted on another local forum. Some members of my local synagogue (New Cross) say that the content isn't exactly anti-semitic, but the author used an incredibly insensitive approach and completely ignored the past suffering they were toying with. After printing and circulating the offending post, my supporters and myself drafted a petition to have the post removed that attracted well over 2000 signatures from our community, but our pleas to the forum's owner went unanswered, and our solicitor's told us that it wasn't a criminal offence, thus the Police would be unwilling to take an interest. I live locally and, although a lurker, am very familiar with the forum for updates on the radio station that advertises on it. The author has a history of writing snide and derogatory posts aimed at gypsies, the working-classes, opposing political views (he's a far-right nutcase), less affluent areas, etc. He dresses them up in a very formal tone and format, but his real intentions are all too obvious. Scratch the surface and you'll find pure, unbridled hatred.

I'm a pro-Zionist Jew who loves Israel and visits regularly and won't accept gratuitous criticism of her. I rose to the rank of Major in the IDF during my 12 voluntary service (I'm a British Jew, thus not legally obliged to do national service, but I felt morally obliged). I was incredibly offended by the aforementioned post and want it removed. But I don't know where to turn. Any advise will be warmly appreciated.

Thank you Sue. It was on the Sydenham forum, and it was indeed terrible. Although to the admin's credit he did lock the thread.

Without wishing to violate this forum's ToU, I'll post a link to the thread in question. Be prepared, as it's quite long, unfortunately.

There's No Business Like Shoah Business.

Blimey Claudia - why did you bring it over here? The thread was over months ago on STF and BBW is long gone from the forum. As I understand it STF admin doesn't shy away from controversial topics but tries to keep things balanced. He locked the thread as it was in danger of being derailed but there were some balanced views as I recall.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. I don't consider the linked post to be anti-semitic. The Police did not think so, and they are pretty hot on that sort of thing.

Why on earth would you be bringing up an old thread from July on another website here that disagrees with YOUR views? He is entitled to his as well.

I also recall this post you made on an STF thread about a witnessed potential drug deal by some local kids:

OMG what colour were they? you never see jewish kids doing this kind of things

So you are not without your own prejudices perhaps?

My community and I don't aren't willing to draw a line under this until the thread in question's removed. In any case, it also showcases BBW for the racist, anti-semitic pig that he's always been. He's got a very lengthy track record, in fact. Here's a few examples the sum total of his conversational topics. All of them are rude and discriminatory.

Catford: The arsehole of Lewisham

Are The Working-Classes More Prone To Raising Their Voices?

Mobility Scooters: They're Becoming a Menace!

Irish Travellers

Notice a trend Voyageur? Anyone who's familiar with his 'material' will see how obviously anti-semitic his vile thread was. He was having a laugh at the extreme expense of others.

In fact, the title of this thread is disingenuous.

It's not about "Combating Local Anti Semitism".

It's a rant about one particular user from another forum who posted threads you found unacceptable. By your own admission your Solicitor found no evidence of your linked thread being anti-semitic, and so the Police weren't interested. And as Voyageur has found, you yourself are not beyond posting the occasional offensive statement either.

I am the Admin of STF. I thought I should put the record straight that I have received no such petition and until a few moments ago was unaware of it or the feelings of the New Cross Synagogue.

Hence I am somewhat at a loss as to why this is being posted here rather than taken it up with me. My STF PM box is always open if the OP would like to use it.

The title, a vile pun, is clearly anti-Semitic and the post is larded with anti-Semitic slurs and insinuations (money grubbing and so on). Admin was boneheaded not to spot it. The issue of German reparations, and the cod historical approach adopted by the OP, is reminiscent of 'revisionist' holocaust denial organisations such as the institute of Historical Review.

STF Admin here again. I was so puzzled too that I went and did some re-checking old posts on STF. Turns out BBW and CD posted from the same IP within an hour of each other. What a coincidence!

    • The tenant's business has already failed. If the landlord doesn't accept it, they can have a vacant property, stand in the queue of creditors, and get paid little or nothing. It's a gamble that the restructuring will work and the tenant will start paying rent again. Commercial properties are often hard to let. 🤷
    • An inquiry will put a huge amount of time and resource into looking at what happened in the past and why it happened and who was responsible and, in a year or two maybe more, a report will be produced and actions may or may not be taken, some of those responsible for bad decisions will already have resigned and moved on.   Given that we now already understand some of the issues that allowed this awful behaviour to continue unchallenged, my concern is less about whether there is an inquiry to examine what happened in the past but about what is being done right now to protect girls and young women from predatory and exploitative men in whatever race or identity they come in. Inquiries examine the past but don't necessarily solve problems and they certainly don't come up with conclusions quickly which is why they can often feel hollow.  I'd rather see perpetrators and those that let the perpetrators act with impunity, actually being prosecuted and an inquiry won't do that.  I suspect that's why some MPs voted against an inquiry. But do feel free to give me examples of inquiries that really made a difference and actually changed things in a timely and effective way.

If you are close to that area it is likely you will be affected by parking displacement if the CPZ goes in. I was just curious what James Barber's position on this is? Perhaps he'll come on here and let us know. He was always really good at visiting the forum.
