Maybe I am overreacting but I just wanted to pass this information on as I'm not sure who else to contact.

This afternoon, about 1.30pm, my daughter was in the newsagents (LNI News, 323 Underhill Rd, SE22 9EA)(between Barry Road and Crystal Palace Road) when a man came in. He bought something from the freezer area and then left the shop. When my daughter left the shop he was waiting in a white Mercedes car outside and pulled the window down to ask my daughter how old she was. She told him she was 15 and then walked past him to cross the road and walked up to the pedestrian crossing on Barry Road. He came up to the crossroads and when he saw my daughter turn left he indicated left but when he noticed that she had crossed the road to continue walking up Underhill Road (towards Upland Road) he parked on Underhill Road and asked her if she had snapchat. She told him that "I'm too young for you" and walked on. He was trying to talk to her but she ignored him and he drove off.

She described him as a man in his twenties, with light brown skin, asian, black beard and trendy man-bun (not Sikh).

Please let your teenage daughter know about this and be vigilant.

tell the police. Did your daughter have the presence of mind to take his registration number? What a horrible experience for her. Your daughter has a loving family. A more vulnerable teenage girl might have felt flattered. This sort of thing is predatory.
Yes please report this. My daughter was approached some years ago. We immediately called the police and we expressed embarrassment at what we thought was trivial but the policeman said that pervs' behaviour escalates to worse....

I reported a flasher in Nunhead Cemetery a few years ago to the police. I was with my children and he didn't just flash and run, he hung around until other people arrived. As a single woman, I experienced a flasher many years before that in Windsor Great Park. I ignored him and he ran away.

I didn't feel I should ignore it this time because of the children and because he didn't run away. Two policemen came round to take my evidence and, as with you, they said that they were concerned about these events because they could lead to worse. They caught him.

Young women can get used to this sort of harassment and learn how to deal with it but they shouldn't have to and this guy may have more success with more vulnerable teenagers. By reporting him now, you help protect them.

Not sure of the reason for the question or why it matters, There could be many reasons, and I know many 15/16 year olds are on mock exams at the moment so returning home to study could be one explanation.

Thanks for the info Langdale.

Hi this definitely should be reported to the police. My 11 yr old son was followed by a man on Saturday afternoon near junction of Goodrich and Friern Road, this is second time it's happened. Last time was around Xmas time again on Saturday afternoon. He couldn't say it was the same man as it was dark and he was cycling ahead. Luckily he managed to get away. But obviously quite shaken by the whole incident. The schools police team are aware. Sometimes I know they send emails via the schools to warn parents and carers to be vigilant when an incident occurs but not sure how they decide what and when to publicize.
Agree totally. At first I was a bit hesitant but as you say acting in such an odd or suspicious manner is enough to notify the Police. I would guess that they may have more information on these incidences to build a picture of what?s happening in the area. I would discuss with school and the police to see if they can talk about safety with the children. Also to mention that there is Dulwich Wingtsun self defence training classes and Della who runs this does kids and adults classes. She also specialises in girls/women?s only groups which not only teaches self defence but raises awareness on keeping yourself safe this is the link if anyone?s interested https://www.phoenixeyewingtsunlondon.co.uk/wing-tsun-in-dulwich.
She did the right thing and you were right to report it to Police. It does not matter that nothing happened. One day a teenage girl may well accept the offer of a lift and what then? No adult should be pursuing an underage girl in this way, ever.
Hello to the OP, I think your daughter handled this impeccable, well done to her and u. I am pleased to learn you have reported this to the police, and I also suggest you talk to your daughters school as well. You can styart with the class teacher. Have you also sat down with your daughter??? she might of been deeply affected by this experience. Tell her she did the right thing!!

Dear Langdale

I am glad you have reported it to the school, the question earlier "was she on her lunch break?" is totally irrelevant, she should be able to go to a shop any time of the day without being approached by a "creep".

Lots of teenagers are on study leave at the moment with mocks.

    • The programme was brilliant and makes me wary now of sea paddling as so many areas affected. My daughter was working at a bank when privatisation of utility companies were floated. Bank advised its staff that only x number of shares could be purchased by individuals as Government rules at that time. She reported that certain people were seeking double and triple shares. Bank told her to ignore the guidelines as those customers had thousands of pounds in the bank. She was so disgusted at the banks attitude she handed in her notice, She decided that the financial world was too corrupt. Two degrees later - she now works in the NHS as an OT in mental health unit.

More details We believe that such a law would constitute complete violation of the Geneva Convention and International Human Rights Law. UN experts have called for these proposals to be dropped. We call on the UK Government apply considerable and substantial political pressure and the leverage of its international obligations to prevent the Israeli Government from passing this law.
