No excuses, I just wont be there - I've seen more than enough fights spilling out of the Castle to give it a wide berth...

I am liking the adventure of The Castle but am concerned that some might be put off by its reputation. We should pick venues that are palatable to all. We dont want to get into name calling of those who just dont feel comfortable going into any proposed venue, it needlessly alienates peeps who are then unlikely to turn up to any other EDF gig.

Unless of course that reputation is completely unfounded and regulars can vouch for it.

I was convinced that the EDT was frequented bt drunks and ner-do-wells, and then I went in there and found, well ....

The Castle is not all that bad, and a big group of people will have no trouble... However, you are right Mike and we should try and pick venues for all, so I hereby state that I shall stay away from any drinks in The Bishop, so it should never be considered ;-)

I forgot to say what a good time I had at the Friday drinks. Meeting many of the regulars again and some newbies too. And finding out that EDoldie is someone I've been friends with since I was a five-year-old came as a complete surprise.

I'm constantly amazed at the surliness of the bar staff in the Dog. It is run by a lovely friendly couple in Duncan and Nikki and I suppose it doesn't really reflect well on them for their staff to be such a miserable bunch of surly gits. They could learn a lot from the wonderful friendly staff at the CPT.

Really? That's odd.

We live nearby and are kept awake or woken pretty much every weekend by people shouting out front. Sometimes it's all just friendly banter, if a bit loud for 1am in a residential area, but there's a fight probably twice a month I'd say and we've seen a couple of really scary beatings going on.

I'm sure most of the people who go there are perfectly nice, but I'm not sure I'd ever go in.

Looks like we are gravitating towards the Uplands on 29/2 - large enough pub to hold us, is acceptable to all and is in East Dulwich.

Maybe we should alternate ED pubs with neighbouring area pubs - Dulwich last time, ED this time, etc.

Exactly right... We could one day take over the whole of Inside 72 like we did with The Drum that time... Only problem is The Drum was basically empty until we arrived, whereas we'd have to get in to Inside nice and early or we'd stand no chance!

I might get shot down for this, but a forum drinks is probably the one thing that would get me in to The Vale. At the end of the day it would give us a chance to see what it was like lately, plus we'd have a big group of us together, and we could even have a boogie if we so desired... :-S

As was shown at the Dog on Friday where standing room only and pissy barstaff still could not prevent us from having a good time: for that reason I agree that we could try the Vale. That plus the fact some people on here actually like the place.

Exactly what Citizen said. I have had some great nights in there (a long time ago), as have some of the NTV crew. It was all ruined by the attitude of the owner/manager, but if a big crew of us were there it could be fun, and it serves til 2, so no groups of us standing cold on the street at midnight wondering where to go next.

Come on, if it's that sh!t, there are plenty of other places we can go to.

Anyway, another time perhaps, Uplands 29th?

    • Well I don’t approve for a shop doing the same food to open so near - just wrong in my opinion. Why not go to the village, Peckham - foot fall would be great in Peckham and certainly more multi  cultural than ED. Village has money but doubt foot fall would be as good as ED.  At least they could have gone to the stretch leading up to Peckham Rye or why not bottom of Barry Road?? Or even North Cross Road I for one, on principal won’t be going in.

    • The street directory is on Ancestry and you'll need a subscription to access.  It's reasonably easy to navigate though you have to find the page you're looking for by a combination of trial and error/guesswork.  https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/61265/images/47056_263021009499_1592-00159?usePUB=true&_phsrc=Soz1793 There is though also a general search page for London directories where the street name can be entered in the keyword field and results will take you to the specific pages. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/61265/
