My GP knows less than me...

I was wondering if you have any recommendations about a "good" GP. My current one's medical knowledge is certainly worse than mine....

Can only praise the consultants at Kings College Hospital, all very caring and providing an excellent service.

Any of the GPs at Nunhead Surgery. They can't all know everything, that's why there's specialists!

I have a similar problem with IT helpdesks. I once ended up telling them what commands they needed to fix their server.

Google knows best in roughly 58% of cases according to some early research!

+1 for Google.

I've used it to identify a particular condition in 2001 and a new operation procedure in 2005. Most Doctors weren't trained in identifying my condition. The operation procedure was a relatively new treatment with only a handful of hospitals offering it. If I had listened to my Doctor with regards to his alternative treatment, it would have resulted in more pain.

Those Google diagnoses weren't easy either.

One of them was "extrinsic allergic alveolitis caused by Mycobacterium avium".

Not your average run of the mill infection.

UDT, have you considered that your doctor might have deliberately misdiagnosed you? ;-)

The problem with Google is it doesn't know context.

I've been sick plenty of times in my life, and all but two of them involving alcohol. Pretty safe to say that whatever the symptoms I'm expressing booze is probably more likely than a disease I've picked up from pigeons.

My last two Doctors have been brilliant but the ones before them were not so good.

Doctors today, do not have the time to keep up to date with changes in medical practices. So it often helps to do a little research before seeing them.
